AM - 5 miles very easy this morning.  Woke up feeling some achiness over the first metatarsal on the left foot and some tightness just above the achilles on the right calf.  Nothing very pronounced but really the first time in a quite a while that I have noticed any dings or aches.  No issues while running.  Will decide at lunchtime whether things feel good for a workout or perhaps opt for an easy regen run.

PM - Although Bam counseled me to play it safe (much appreciated by the way) based upon my entry regarding aches and pains and to perhaps forego my session this afternoon - in the end I decided that the little noted dings and niggles were not significant enough to push my planned session and so I proceeded with pretty good results and with no pain or issues to complain of either.

2 mile warm up then 8 miles at MRP - which I had estimated to be about 6:30 pace before starting but after the first mile I decided to increase the speed and ended up running the last 7 miles at 6:22 pace. Wore the HR monitor and I was right in the high end of the "aggressive" range per Daniels with the last two miles averaging 163 HR - perhaps some cardiac drift as the first 6 were in the high 150's.  Did a 1 mile cool down. Felt like this was a good workout.  Required good concentration particularly in the last 2 miles or so.

Heading over to Cocoa Beach on the east coast of Florida this afternoon for the long holiday weekend.  Delaney has a soccer tournament all three days.  I will get to explore new places to run in between games.

Play it safe. You've plenty of time. Drop the tempo into your long weekend run.

Nice run Bret. It's all good stuff. You must be pleased with your form. All the work is paying off.

Thanks! Quite pleased - this is somewhat uncharted territory for me - not sure how much to push things or to be satisfied that I appear to be comfortably ahead of my goal in terms of fitness and just make sure I stay healthy and injury free for the next 9 weeks.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. What do you do? Jake might be able to help. I'm not sure as I haven't run a marathon or trained for one.

If I were in your position, I'd get to 6 weeks out and then settle into a mp based on what my form indicated.

6 weeks gives you plenty of time to do longish tempo runs at mp and drop in mp efforts in your long run. It will also allow you time to do some long intervals (3/4 x 3miles)at a pace just a touch quicker than mp with short recoveries at 30 sec slower than mp:)

I think now is too early to pick your mp as your fitness will improve over the next few weeks. But like I said, speak to somebody who's been there.

Enjoy the football. (What position does Delaney play?)Cocoa Beach sounds like a cool place.

This weekend, there are 35,000 Americans in Dublin to watch Notre Dame v The Navy - 'American football'. There was some great chat on the radio: some journo from the US was saying about Notre Dame living off its history as a footballing giant and that now it's mediocre etc. Very funny stuff.

Bam - Thanks for the input - maybe Jake will have time to weigh-in on the matter.

Cocoa is right near the Kennedy Space center/NASA and is a pretty cool place. Famous for the Ron Jon surf shop - which is open 24 hours. In case you need to satisfy your late night surf board fix.

Delaney plays a holding center midfield position. They won their first game this morning 2-0 in the U19 classification. Abbreviated matches of 30 min halves and a minimum of 4 games in 3 days. Should be fun.

I was quite surprised to hear about the Notre Dame - Navy game in Dublin. College games overseas now??? The comments about ND being mediocre and living off their old reputation is apt by the way.
