I remember those early starts; not nice.

When's your next workout and what are you planning?

Tomorrow - planning 8 miles at MP.

Perfect. And what's mp?

Well - by my rough calculations I think it is 6:30 per mile. I arrived at that based upon my session on Tuesday and the tempo run I did a couple weeks ago. I will know better when I see my HR during the session if that works or needs to be adjusted.

I was thinking 6:25-6:30 too. But then I was thinking that's off your current 5K(ish) pace.

You'll be much faster in a few weeks time. Maybe 6:20 would be a better option: still conservative, but a good plan for the first half of the marathon.

You'd be able to cope with 6:20 pace over 8-13 miles as a mp tempo during the next few weeks and then later, when you do the longer tempo runs (14-18) the pace will be comfortable. You should, therefore, be able to get the balance right between burning fat and glycogen.

This would mean that when you hit 20-22 miles in the marathon, you'd have enough in the tank to power home:)

Let's see how you cope with the 8 today...
