PM - 10 miles on the treadmill with no real plan for training today but just to run and to process my thoughts on things.  Did the first 5 miles at about 7:10 pace and then the last at marathon pace which right now is between 6:40 and 6:45.  Could have done more, but that felt about right.  Will try to get a long run in tomorrow and resume training plan.

Hey Bret - when I was in Florida in December for my dad's funeral I raced an 8k down in Manatee County. He always took a big interest in my running and even in my mid 40s he'd be the first person I'd call when I ran a good race or finished a marathon.

Kind of like you, I credit my dad with my interest in running and fitness which has always been way more than just a diversion for me. When I was 10 he brought home from work one of those 110 lb. weight sets from Sears. You know, the plastic ones filled with concrete? He'd sit out in our garage with me while I lifted and would discuss with me the importance of good nutrition and exercise. All the while smoking about 3 packs a day.

Life really beat my dad down in a lot of ways and there were lots of things related to being a "success" in this world that he just didn't get. But he got being a good dad.

Just rambling... not sure your blog is the place for it. Hope you and all your girls are hanging in there.

Thanks Rob - your comments brought to mind similar memories and experiences. I too had one of those Sears weight sets about the same age! Recall phoning my Dad from the finish of more than just a few races over the years too.
