AM - 9 miles of hill drills back on my regular hill this morning.  Felt good when I awoke and had a very solid strong session today.  My 8 x 8 bursts made me feel almost ike a sprinter coming out of the blocks.  Legs were sufficiently tired after the effort, but I have noticed that I don't necessarily feel completely drained otherwise - seems confined to the lower half at least today.  Marks the last of my hills phase - onward to some anaerobic work.

PM - 8.5 miles after work.  Met Richie at the lake in Carillon and did a few loops there and then around Feathersound.  Discussed a plan for a long run on Saturday morning.  Felt a little stiff in the first mile but eased into a leisurely pace with him, though he seemed at times to be dragging a bit - said he was a little tired from a workout on Monday and Wednesday.  Our friend Drew did a half marathon in San Diego over the weekend - had a bit of a disappointing time for him - 1:18.11 - second in his age group.  Based on his training times it would seem logical that he'd be disappointed with that too.  Look forward to a run with him to see what happened.

Those 8x8 blasts are great on so many levels. I think that's my most important session.

If you take 2 mins walk rec, you should find the session really easy and no problems after. If I were you, I'd try to find a way of keeping 1 session of 8x8's a week - I do them on a rec day. Because they are alactic, you're working your C.P. system - so long as you take adequate recovery - and therefore, the session doesn't impinge on the rest of your training.

Love the 8x8's and will continue at your suggestion to incorporate them straight through.

The 8x8s are the next thing I'm going to add in... after this marathon in a few weeks, for the next cycle.

You're going to crush 3hrs with plenty of room to spare!

Just another suggestion: Bret, maybe on your last two long runs, you could think about dropping in an 8x8 sec hill blast at the end of the run. This will really help with the recruitment factor etc. It's something Renato Canova suggested to a friend of mine who is a 2:35 man.

Jake, as well as doing the 8x8's once a week, you could think about adding them on the end of your long runs maybe 5 weeks out.

Another idea is to do 3 miles hard -uphill! - at the end of your long run. I know it doesn't sound too appealing but it's a cracker for recruitment etc.

I agree with Jake, you're gonna obliterate 3hrs.

Bam - that's a great idea. My favorite LR spot (the Jeremy Ranch that I frequently mention) is gradually uphill for the last couple miles of the run... and it finishes at a spot w/ a couple of steeper gradients that would be perfect for the 8x8

Thanks guys - really appreciate the confidence-building comments. I am wary not to get ahead of myself, but I really am feeling quite good about things right now.

Jake - really enjoyed the post on your blog and all of the discussion. I just came to the party too late to add anything of substance.
