5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (~8.5 miles, 1:14:25).  26:54wu/27:31cd  10 x :38-:40sec sprints up a very steep hill.  This run was probably somewhere longer than 8.5, but not quite 9.0 ... it was a hard workout, made a little more difficult in that I did run slowly enough in the recovery down the hill for the first few, so the last 2 were super tough.  I am sure it is helping with my power though, in a way I can't wait to try the track again soon to test it out (although it is already a little hot for long track workouts - 96F most of this week, easily 86F by 9AM).

PM:  easy 4.

We have a nest on our patio, it is in a perfect corner, it drives Titus-the-cat crazy because it is "just" out of his reach.  Anyway, today the 4 babies tried to fly for the first time.  One did not do well and Titus got him.  I chased Titus and took the baby bird away from him and set it back outside on the ground.  By the time I got back from my run it was gone ... I am hoping that it was able to recover from the scare and fly off.  Titus is locked inside for the day though, he doesn't like it, but it has to be.  House cats are the number 1 reason that many of the song birds in the US (and probably the world) are at risk for extinction ... we (and Titus) are trying to do our part for the environment!

Other exciting news ... our first scorpion of the year last night ... luckily on the wall (easy to spot and not get stung).  It is funny, we have to check our bed every night before we get in ... the joys of summer ;-)

Happy day bloggers!

I will be happy to not check my bed for a scorpion tonight.

There aren't a lot of reasons that I'm ecstatically happy to live in Illinois, but that's definitely one of them.

You are one tough cookie! I can't even imagine having to check my bed for scorpions!

Hi Kim, I was thinking of you today ... I had a friend who just got 9th in the SG Ironman -- she was a professional runner and recently turned triathlete -- anyway they said it was TOUGH out there today, 92F and so windy that one of the aid stations blew away!! She is tough, I just have an aversion to being stung ;-)

Tracy, I like Illinois ;-), born there, have lots of family there (Sterling-Rock Falls, Byron, etc). No scorpions - that is for sure!
