Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

After a few days of 80-90F weather it was a beautiful 50F today!!

Felt a little better (I got my SI joint pulled out again yesterday).  I think I might have to get a blood test soon, I am not really slowing down, but something just "doesn't feel right".  It was interesting because Kory had mentioned carbs to me on Sunday, and Dean actually (independently) said something about it last night.  I have not actually been "no carb" but I have cut out many carbs from my diet.  I have felt better (less full) in general, but it is possible that after a couple of months of this diet it may be catching up with me.  When I say lower carbs I mean, no pasta, no potatoes, no rice and very little bread.  Not entirely carb free, just lower.  If my iron/thyroid comes back normal, it may be that I need to think how to smartly add a few more carbs into my diet.  Anyway, today was better so we will see if whatever it is just dissipates on its own.

Have a great day bloggers!!

I hope whatever it is you are feeling normal right away. I can't do lower carbs, I really enjoy cooking and eating all kinds of pasta. I use rice noodles many times though so I do not know where that ranks on the carb load.

Yay for the cooler weather!

very interesting, bonnie. i'm in the exact same situation. i have been eating a starch-free (well, 95% starch-free) diet for a few months in hopes of improving my overall body composition (the ultimate goal being an improvement in my running performance).

i decided just TODAY (also independently ;)) that i was going to add brown rice and sweet potatoes back into my diet. the no starch/no gluten thing has overall made me feel a lot better, but running-wise i have been slowly losing energy and feeling more and more lethargic on my runs. it is also really, really hard for me to consume enough calories (because you can only eat so much fruit, veggies and almond butter) :)

i'm interested to hear more of your thoughts...

You are very disciplined in terms of your diet (and other things as well). I hope you're able to get it figured out.

So easy to find ways to add carbs. I don't think I'll ever be carb free, we are good friends, me and the carbs. I'll be thinking of Dean and his surgery--that is such a big deal. Is success assured, 95%?

From Bonnie on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 16:44:03 from 128.196.228.134

I think I will add sweet potatoes much more often -- they are actually a miracle food ;)

Michelle, success is probably not 95%, but certainly better than 0% which is what it is now ... he is a better person than me, as he still has been his sweet self through all of this ... and it has been so hard on him. I have been toying with the idea of running the SD 1/2 ... it would be great to see you at the finish line!!

I've done the starch-free thing. I eventually (last year) added back in yams simply to keep my weight stable when I started hitting 90-100mpw. This year, I've added back rice. And dark chocolate is a must. ;-)

Sounds like you, allie and I are on the same page ... yams are back in!!

So good to see your successes Paul! I am actually considering Hyrum's race, so maybe I will see you there. How does Seth like being a big brother?

Thanks. I think Seth is liking it. He will hug Zoe, and say "Lub you Zoe!"
