Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

big goose-egg from anything today.  I am having problems getting an aircast for my leg, I did however, manage to find a relatively inexpensive water-proof mp3 player so as soon as it gets here I will do as much deep pool running as I can.  The problem is that although I have not been running for over 2 weeks I have not actually "rested" my leg at all, and  since I am not immobilizing my leg (can't wear a boot because of where the pain is) I am not sure I have started healing yet.  So, I will try to stay off it for one whole week (pool running only) before I do the elliptical again.  This will, however, have to start next week because I am deathly afraid of weight gain (despite cutting my caloric intake by about a half).  So, I will elliptical tomorrow (though I might not tell Dean) and start my "only pool running" regime sometime next week.  My MRI is on Wednesday (insurance woes abound, somehow they don't care at all how much not having a definitive diagnosis interfers with my life) - and I will know for sure then how much time this little "blip" is going to interfere with my training -- and whether or not I will have to defer my Houston entry to next year.

Well, I will spend the day cleaning my house (much needed, I won't even tell you the last time it had a thorough cleaning) and writing my "personal statement" for my 3 year tenure and promotion review.  Such fun.

I hope you are all happy, healthy and enjoying your weekend!

Bon Bon! If you cannot run, I say you cannot clean! :)

Any chance of Dean ponying up for dinner?!

I really pray your healing is speedy!! I know it cannot be fast enough for you.

From Bonnie on Sat, Sep 25, 2010 at 16:14:12 from 64.119.33.134

Oh Dan, I HAVE to do something. Dean might take me out to dinner tonight (he is a sweetie) - but our lives are complicated right now because he has a big grant application that is due next week and has been working even longer hours than usual for about 4 weeks now. And, housecleaning even in the best of times is not a priority for him ;-).

Thank you so much. I am seriously hoping that once I get my aircast the healing will speed up a lot (and maybe when I pool run more than elliptic - since it is still weight-bearing). There is a balance you know, going crazy (and gaining too much weight) versus healing faster -- I can't seem to get the "trade-off" maximized in my mind ;-).

What an AMAZING run you had today!! Wow! Your training is moving along splendidly! YEA!

arg! bonnie, i can't imagine the frustrations you are feeling and i so wish i was better at saying something that would be encouraging or helpful. i have seriously been thinking of you everyday and i hope you can get some definite answers about the whole thing. i guess for now, enjoy the pool running -- riverton paul did a ridiculous amount of pool running at one point, so he might have some tips on how to stay sane in the water (waterproof mp3 is a great start) :)

even though it is no longer hug a vegetarian day...((BIG HUG))

Stay positive.

allie, what do you mean, you have been awesome, I can't tell you how much your constant checking in on me (and hugs) means to me ... seems as though it is particularly tough I am glad I haven't lost my "running" friends even though I am not a "runner" right now ;-).

Thank you Burt!

Bonnie! So glad you are trying the pool thing. It sounds hideous (and it is!), but I did actually start to love it after a while. You can make yourself some interval workouts in there. An iPod is an absolute necessity; under the swim cap works. There is also quite a difference in flotation belts - some of them just don't provide as much buoyancy as others. I used a Nike one, I have NO natural buoyancy, and you want your head to be above water at an easy jog. Good luck!

OH MAN!!! I just had to read you entire month's worth of blogging, I am so far behind! I do not know how you women work all day along with all the other stuff (like cooking, cleaning, shopping) and still find time to keep up with anything. Working part time has thrown me for loop.

Anyway, i am so sorry to hear about your injury, but I am glad you are going for the MRI so you can know for sure and move on from there and leave the mind numbing elliptical behind (although gyms and the people watching is often what gets me out to work out!!)

Best of luck to you! Take care!!

Oh, and did I know you were in Utah??? I think I missed it entirely, but glad to hear the wedding went well.

From Bonnie on Sun, Sep 26, 2010 at 16:37:39 from 128.196.228.134

Hi Auntie, thanks for the information - I have no natural buoyancy either (read: flat chested ;-)).

Hi Kelli, well, I don't have kids to watch and chauffeur around, I am not at all surprised you have no time! You are a superhero. I am pretty sure that best case scenario I have 4 weeks of the elliptical/water running left -- hopefully only that long!

We were 'friends' when I was in Utah, but I don't think we were ever at the same races ... too bad!!

From seeaprilrun on Sun, Sep 26, 2010 at 17:08:22 from 68.103.248.145

LOL I had natural buoyancy until I started running and then I lost most of it! Hang in there Bonnie!

From Burt on Sun, Sep 26, 2010 at 18:47:05 from 68.225.214.248

Oh my gosh, I got into the wrong conversation here. (Slowly backing my way out of the room.)

From Kelli on Sun, Sep 26, 2010 at 22:53:05 from 71.219.65.246

I still have my buoyancy...

Well, I will be in AZ in February! Just when the weather is PERFECT.

You take care, I will be thinking of you and sending healing vibes your way.
