Short-Term Running Goals:

 

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over! 




Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.


Personal:

50 year old, trying to defy gravity and time

Used to be faculty at the University of Arizona (biostatistics).  Currently manager of the statistics and data management group for companion diagnostics (biomarkers) at Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. (Roche diagnostics).  We evaluate protein biomarkers that can be used to direct drug therapy that would be most effective based on individual characteristics (personalized medicine).

AM: 44:33 (5 miles). Ok, so I was naive yesterday to be all glib about how good my legs felt. Ouch, by about 2PM yesterday they hurt like crazy. I can only imagine how much MarcieJ and Josse's legs hurt after Bryce! I used the foam roller (double ouch) and stretched like crazy and although I was worried, my run this morning wasn't too bad. Now I have to stay loosened up for my run this afternoon. I can tell that Jeremy Ranch Road will be a little hard tomorrow ;-).

 

PM: 31:35 (3.5 miles).  I waited as long as I could to do my PM run, but it just did not seem to be cooling off ... so at 7:00I finally just went.  I just ran slow in 98F weather. I ran in Liberty Park, it is flat and there are trees, so at least the sun was not too bad.

Whew.  Pretty tired today, I am not planning on working at all tomorrow.

The foam roller is great, it hurts a lot, but I swear by it! It really can keep IT band woes at bay. I have been trying to keep up with Egoscue exercises too (kind of mix between Pilates and yoga), but it takes a lot of to do them right (almost an hour a day) and I generally just can't find the time to do it everyday.

Good job getting out there and getting your run done today Shauna. I am sure it was a relief to have a good run today (despite the heat). I hope your work stresses are better. I am pretty stressed out these days too, I just can't find the time to get everything done, and even if I spend 12 hours (like yesterday) my last couple hours I am brain-dead and can't function very well anyway!!

I have to second that one about how decieving the legs can be about how they feel until you start running two days later.

It was so funny, I was so "smug" yesterday -- and then last night as I walked to my car I could barely make it up the stairs! I felt really old and thought "I will never be able to run a marathon, what a wimp I am!". And I did not even think it would happen until I read your blog yesterday and saw you mention it is worse two after!! Maybe it was a placebo effect!

Nice run today Adam, way to get out there and get it done!

I am running the TOU half in August ... more as a training run than a race, and then I will be running some cross-country races and some 10K's in the fall (not sure which ones yet). My next "key" race (where I hope to PR) is PF Chang's 1/2 in January.

How about you? I thought about Alta, but I am not sure.

My legs feel much better today ... whew I was nervous they felt so heavy yesterday!

I'm so glad your legs are feeling better. Mine were heavy when I woke up, but felt fine once I started walking round.

I'm planning on running Hobblecreek 1/2, Spanish Fork 1/2, and St. George Marathon. The cross-country races sound fun. I'll have to look into that.

Too bad we couldn't run hobble creek together - it would be great if we could do some training runs together. I will be at a conference next weekend, and through the following weekend, but maybe the weekend of the 16th?
