Short-Term Running Goals:

 

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over! 




Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.


Personal:

50 year old, trying to defy gravity and time

Used to be faculty at the University of Arizona (biostatistics).  Currently manager of the statistics and data management group for companion diagnostics (biomarkers) at Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. (Roche diagnostics).  We evaluate protein biomarkers that can be used to direct drug therapy that would be most effective based on individual characteristics (personalized medicine).

1:13:07.  A little longer than 8 ... I sort of "forgot" to turn around.  I really have no idea how far this run is, but it doesn't really matter, just an easy run.

I'm like Carolyn. I don't want to do a hundredth of a mile more than I set out to do. But if I do, I want to make darn sure that I credit myself for every extra bit...

But maybe that's my problem! I gotta take a lesson from you and just stop wearing my garmin :)

I like knowing how far I've run. But I have to run until I hit an even 10th of a mile. No hundreths for me! I imagine with as much structure as you have in your work, running is a nice break. Reason # 38 why you run so many miles?

CinC - I sure was. I was happy because it was not hot (we are experiencing a "cool front" - so it was 70F) and just enjoying the day!!

Tracy - if I had a garmin I would only wear it if I was traveling or maybe when I was doing fartlek/tempo runs. It is very "freeing" to just run and not worry about pace or distance ... run for time and estimate mileage. I like to underestimate my mileage just to remind myself that it is not important -- the structuring of the training is what counts (for me anyway). I have to go check your blog and see how you are doing -- hope all is well and that you have your mojo back!

JD .. I run a lot of miles out of habit! My body responds well to lots of miles - but when I have an "easy" day, I run really easy -- I don't worry about pace, I just make sure that I am not breathing hard, and am running pretty much as slowly as possible without "slogging". When my life is overwhelming (like it has been the past few months) I don't really like the structured speed work, though I do like running fast every-once-in-a-while. I hope your achilles is feeling better??
