PR's

5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (13 miles, 1:46:27). 33:27 wu/28:34 cd. 16 x 400 @ 10K>5K pace w/ 200 recovery. It was brutal, it was ugly. The wind was blowing so hard that I was going sideways a few times -- despite weighing in 3 lbs heavier this morning ... All the way down to the track I kept telling myself not to compare todays workout with the one I ran a few weeks ago, I figured the wind was going to cost me at least 1-2 secs/lap. I ended up running the first lap too hard, but tried to just relax.

Summary:

1st 1600: 1:39, 1:40, 1:41, 1:41 (6:41), ave recovery 1:08

2nd 1600: 1:41, 1:42, 1:38, 1:41 (6:42), ave recovery 1:08

3rd 1600: 1:38, 1:39, 1:41, 1:39 (6:37), ave recovery 1:12

4th 1600: 1:39, 1:40, 1:39, 1:38 (6:36), ave recovery 1:10

I ran a littler harder than I meant to, because of the wind (did I mention how windy it was? :-) ) - but all and all, I have to be happy about the weather here, and my improvement this month (last month I ran 6:52, 6:35, 6:49, 6:49). This was the last hard workout until my race ... the goal is to have 10K pace feel "easy" (at least compared to 5K pace ;-) ).

PM: (4 miles super duper easy).

Alas, my blogger friends, my cat Titus has struck again. He was obsessed with the laundry room since Sunday -- I told Dean that he must have brought something inside (from outside), I saw little blood stains on the floor yesterday morning. So Dean moved the washer, dryer and all the other things around last night but did not find anything. This morning I saw the mouse/desert rat ... I told Dean that we needed to catch it (while it was alive) because I did not want Titus torturing the poor thing any more. Well, when I got back from my run Dean had left me a note "I caught and removed the mouse, unfortunately, he did not survive". RIP little fella.

great workout bonnie. the wind sounds intense. i think that is my worst running weather. when exactly is your race?

From Bonnie on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 12:53:49 from 64.119.33.134

Hi Allie!!! When does the semester start there? We start tomorrow.

I hate the wind at the track and during races!! My race is on the 24th. I am so bummed you aren't going to be here so we could celebrate our victories together ... but you will be oh so much more ready in May!! maybe I will come to Eugene for the 1/2 ...hmmmmm.

That does sound brutal, Bonnie! I hate wind at the track also, because you always get one side easy and one side hard - too difficult to keep a steady pace. Very nice work!

So you told yourself not to compare yourself to last month because of the wind, and you still beat your last month's times in spite of the wind. See, you are super strong!

the semester started yesterday for me. it was a nice break but i was itching to get back to classes (mostly because it means progress toward my degree!) i am bummed about canceling my trip to AZ as well. i was so looking forward to a fun weekend in the sunshine. best of luck to you on starting the new semester, and of course, your race on the 24th! [you should definitely come to eugene.]

OUch sounds windy, wind is worst at the track it just is, as most tracks are quite open and no hedgrows around them so they get the wind pretty bad, even though you may have the wind behind you on half the lap it doesnt help as much as it hurts when running into it I hear you I hear you it was windy.

Wind is great for playing music, or horrid smells LOL but not great to run into but then its great for making you a stronger runner an all over body workout as it doesnt choose to attack certain parts but the whole body........ am I going on here LOL :)

Sam ... you crack me up! We will be going to Spain next year, we HAVE to figure out a way to stop by and meet you! I am glad that you hear me ;-).

Allie -- I am going to definitely keep Eugene in mind. Although I think I might have already sold Dean on a race in Santa Barbara (we are wine enthusiasts and collectors) - I was hoping he might be able to race again by then, but I don't think so ... it is a bummer. Good luck this semester!
