4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (10+ miles, 1:29:34). 31:15 wu/31:21 cd.  5 x 800m @ 10K > 5K pace w/400 recovery.  Target pace (3:21 - 3:29/ 6:44-6:59).  Actual pace: 3:23 (2:19), 3:21 (2:18), 3:23 (2:19), 3:23 (2:18), 3:20 (3:22).  Not bad ... especially because it was VERY windy today.  The whole time down to the track I was trying to estimate how much the wind was going to cost me ... and I was actually quite angry about it after thinking about it for 30 mins ;-).  But I just tried to relax and not over do it into the wind, a good strategy I guess.  I was sort of surprised when I saw this workout, I thought it was a little easy compared to the past couple weeks -- but it wasn't really that easy, just shorter than usual.  Next week are more 400's so it is nice to have some slightly shorter workouts thrown in ... but I guess 2.5 miles at 5K pace or thereabouts really can't be thought of as easy ;-).

PM: (4 - 4.5 miles easy).

I have a lot to do today - mainly because I am trying to get some work done so I can take my Mom to the desert museum.  The wildlife is not being cooperative - not one sighting while she has been here, despite her diligent watchfulness ... so, I am going to cheat and take her to where we are guarenteed to see some animals ;-).

Happy Thursday bloggers!

You are really surprising yourself with your speed lately. Great job!

From Bonnie on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 13:54:21 from 64.119.33.134

Thanks carolyn, what do you mean about surprising myself? I wish it were so ... then I would be blowing these workouts out of the water ;-). As it is, I am feeling a little discouraged/panic'd/no optimistic about my race!! I was hoping all this would be easier than it is. But, I promised I would be grateful, so I am!

You hit your target pace in spite of the wind and you probably have been running your easy runs faster than you realize. And didn't you have a run recently that you ran a route much faster than you used to?

I thought you were speedy already, but I think you're doing great and will have a great race.

It is amazing the things we think about when doing speed work outs! Nice job today, though! You hit some great times, wind or not!

From Bonnie on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 16:54:55 from 64.119.33.134

Thanks Kelli! I know it was a good workout, but I kept thinking - "I did 10 of these last year at almost this pace, and these feel really hard" ... I guess only having 2:20 recovery is a little different from having 3:30 or so, but STILL. Actually, I need to zen out and not think about the run anymore ;-)

I will, instead, think about how nice it is outside right now!

Nice job hitting the pace you wanted! Sounds as though we had sort of similar frustrating days!

I think 800s is a fun workout, and they always tire me more than I think they are going to. I think they are short, but they are a lot, especially when you add up the mileage.

Bonnie, You are tearing it up this year and we are only one week in. What is your next race?

From Bonnie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 14:14:19 from 70.167.208.3

Hi Adam, how is the world of physiology? Hope you are doing well, I won't get into the world of biostatistics/cancer right now - we have a program project due on the 15th and we are at the stage of everyone wanting to strangle everyone else ;-).

Running is going well, I just had a little panic attack yesterday -- why? I don't know ... but anyway, I am running a 10K on the 24th. I am trying to PR by over 1:30 - not easy, especially since my 10K PR is not soft - I was in pretty good shape, and younger, when I ran it ;-).

When are you going to race again? Any marathons in your future? I hope all is going well!

Bonnie you rocked this workout! Very solid pace and there is a HUGE difference between 3:30 of recovery and 2:15 of recovery.

From Adam RW on Sat, Jan 09, 2010 at 22:16:42 from 24.10.132.131

Hi Bonnie, Things are going fine. Busy as ever, but so is our chosen life. That being said things are going in the right direction and I’m reviewing two papers I’m middle author on this weekend for submission sometime soon…

I’m glad your running is going so well. Panic attacks are strange things and I’m sure the program project is a contributing factor. I know that grant and manuscript deadlines have the same affect on me. With the way you are running I’m looking forward to that PR attempt.

My training is also going well. I’m on year two of a three year plan. I’ll probably race a 5K on the 30th and then two races in February. My next marathon will be in April.
