4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (1:17:34, 10.5+ miles, 6+ @ Steady State pace). I was all ready to whine and complain about my sinus infection (which is very painful) -- but my workout went so well I guess I really can't complain. I generally go by the "above the neck" rule - meaning as long as the illness is above the neck I generally don't take time off from running for it. But, for the past two days (maybe longer -- it might be the basis for many of the headaches I have had lately that I have attributed to stress) I have been in a lot of pain and although my nose is not "stuffy" I am smelling funny ... and then today I woke up with a fever ... so ... just in time for a trip overseas! I am getting some antibiotics this afternoon ... so hopefully by tomorrow or at least this weekend I will feel better. Back to running -- I had decided to do the same workout as last week, but had given myself the option to bag the workout part, or do an abreviated version (2 laps or 4.5 miles SS) - but it went so well that I added a third lap, and then said, what the heck might as well finish the workout. It is not like it is a tempo run -- it is a pretty easy pace, it just takes a little more concentration than easy pace. So, each lap is at least 1.5 miles long. I ran 1.25 laps warmup (about 2.25 miles) and then 4 laps SS (6 miles) and another 1.25 laps cd.

19:31 wu, 11:54 (7:56), 11:35 (7:43), 11:26 (7:37), 11:19 (7:32), 21:57 cd.

Not bad for running on grass/dirt. I am reserving the right not to run my 2nd run -- depending on how I feel by the end of the day. I am pretty tired, and I have SOOOOO much to do!

PM: (3.5 miles, 30:21).  Ran from Poppington Park down 11th to Bonneville ... it gets dark too soon now!!  It wasn't quite as dark as last time - but it was pretty hard to see!

Get that sickness gunk away! Especially if it has you "smelling funny"! ha ha! You are such an awesome runner! I can't believe how much traveling you do! I'll bet you love running in all these different places! Get better and travel safely!

From Bonnie on Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 15:02:46

Ahhh Kim, I am not really that good, I just am stubborn and work hard! (same way I got my phd ;-) ). The smell thing is really weird.

I really don't "traveling" - but I do enjoy the experience! We'll see how running goes in Taiwan, I am bit nervous about it, but I figure there HAVE to be places to run somewhere! I just hope we avoid a typhoon!

I will be sending you LOTS of energy at SGM -- you have to run and enjoy it (as a birthday present to me).

Nice job, Bonnie! I'm just like you on sinus trouble... hate it! Antibiotics is the only thing that works for me. That, and cutting down on milk products. I hope life gets less hectic soon!

From Bonnie on Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 15:15:12

11 days Lucia, it is a count down! Sorry you have sinus problems too, I don't get them often, but I know them when I see them! I will be bummed if it is viral!!

Bonnie, Sorry to hear about the nasal infection but I'm glad that you've been able to get in some good runs none-the-less. Also, while on the islands I'm sure you'll be distracted from the pain.

From Bonnie on Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:44:12

Thanks Adam -- I started antibiotics yesterday - it is working already. The funny thing is I just assumed I was having stress headaches -- I mean it is not like things are stressful! I am pretty lucky (so far) that it hasn't had a negative impact on my running.

BTW - I think having this past week "down" and otherwise occupied is going to have positive impact on SGM, not negative. That is my hypothesis.
