Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

57:29 - wow, Chicago lived up to its nickname today -- it was so windy on the way out that it felt like I was running uphill in sand.  I was tired anyway from the week of little sleep (probably 3 hours a night - I just couldn't sleep well), long days, and 11 miles yesterday, but man, it was a hard run today.  A lot of people who ran too hard (and passed me)  ended up walking about 3 miles into it (it was really really windy).  Even after I turned around the tailwind did not help as much as the headwind had hurt ... but, it was a pretty morning (really humid, but that is Chicago as well) and I enjoyed my last run there for a while.

Have a great weekend bloggers.

The other day I was reading that the tailwind never makes up for the headwind and down hill never makes up for the up hill! Bummer! Way to keep it all going though! Especially on such little sleep! Be careful not to wear yourself too thin!

Thanks for blogging the windy city runs. I love to read where y'all go to run/vaction. Funny, funny goose poop entry. Thanks for that, it made me laugh! AND I hear you on that murkey bottom lake thing....yick.

I had to go back and check out the goose poop entry. Thanks for mentioning it luzylew. I must have missed it earlier. I've ran where there is lots of goose poop and I know what you mean! At first I didn't know what it was, I thought it was from the trees....ha ha! I hope you don't come down with goose poop fever!

Thank you Luzylew! So, the funniest thing about "goose poop" is that Dean received his BS in chemical engineering and he had to take a class (a whole semester) on rust . Well, who knew that there were so many types of rust! They had a mnemonic to help them remember all of different types (that the professor of the class had taught them) - one of Dean's classmates actually thought the mnemonic wasn't funny enough so he came up with a different one, 'goosepiss'. Dean to this day can recite all the different kinds of rust because of it (and that class was almost 25 years ago now). So the whole time I was running I was cracking up about goose poop, but I could not remember why (I just thought I was silly and lack of sleep was getting to me!). When I told Dean about my run - he reminded me why I thought it was so funny!

Hi Kim, thank you for the kind words (and worrying about me)! I hope your day off tomorrow makes you feel fresh as a gazelle for next week (daisy's are too slow!).
