10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

Today I change age groups (45-49), I am not sure how I feel about it - both glad to be the youngest in the bracket and completely shocked that I am in this age group! I think I have a bug of some kind. Tuesday I struggled much more than I should have (if Anna's garmin-thingy was right) and today I had a rough start, I just felt like I was working harder than I should have been for the pace I felt I was running -- maybe it was just because it was a steep uphill up Virginia, but I am going to stock-up on the vitamin C just in case.

I had a hard time finding a hill with the right grade I was supposed to run 8 x 60-90 secs up a 6-10% grade. I ran up to Poppington Park and tried the Virginia Street behind the park, but that felt way too steep (there was no way I could run for more than 40-50 secs up that hill) -- so, I tried a little farther down, and still it felt a little too much (even though I was able to run for 63 secs pretty fast). Finally, I decided to run over on 11th towards the U (where I ran them last time -- but this time I started farther down the hill). Mapmyrun still has this at a 20% grade, but I doubt that is right ... but I am pretty sure it is 10% or more. Anyway - I ran 6 more @ 62-63 secs ... I feel ok about the workout, though not sure, if I am not sick, how I am feeling right now about my chances for a good race. I guess I will see how the track workout goes next week.

Happy Birthday Bonnie! You are going to womp all over your new age group!

6010% grade? Sounds REALLY steep.

Thank you Lybi, you are very kind, I don't feel like there will be much womping going on from my side! Yes, 6010% would be steep!! See, now I can blame it on age ;-)

Bonnie,

Happy b-day! It is a great age group. Dennis Simonaitis is still pretty much destroying everyone else in the country with no signs of letting up.

It seems like everyone in UT is getting sick! In addition to the vitamin C, don't neglect the Zinc!!

Take care,

R

Thank you Randy, I had forgotten about the zinc (but have some at home) ... I have been lucky enough to ward off stuff like this in the past.

Both Dennis and Michelle are incredible!

I was up near you last weekend, but I was in the district. You know, I used to consult with a company in Gaithersburg and my usual running route there crossed your Clopper 10!

Happy running!

Bonnie

Happy Birthday, Bonnie! I think you can be very competitive in your new age group. Your training is going great, and you're in awesome shape. It seems like this week the Blog has been attacked with some illness - maybe people are getting sick just from reading other blogs. Or maybe it's some bug going around in Utah. In any case, feel better soon, you'll need to be on top of your game in a few weeks!

Have you run in Big Sur before? I hiked there - the scenery is absolutely breathtaking, but from what I understand, the course is very challenging, at least the marathon course. If you don't run your planned time, don't be disappointed. Pick a faster half afterwards, if you want to know your true potential.
