marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:01:45.  I was supposed to run with a friend here in town ... I love running with her, except that she is way too fast for me to run with usually (3:17 marathoner -- and she is 55!!!).  She just had knee surgery (from a fall, not running) so I figured we might be more equally matched now ;-).  Anyway, she had to cancel, so I ran by myself and then met her for breakfast instead.   So cool to be able to do these kind of things -- I can get into the office whenever I feel like (or before my next meeting anyway ;-) ).  Next week I have to hunker down again though, I have to finish two papers in June ... but, this week is all about "work recovery" - the last 6 months were truly the toughest months I have ever had (work-wise).

Anyway -- all is good.  I hope all is good for you too bloggers!!

What the heck is going on with the visitor counter and my blog?  I am losing 4 people/day!  What the hey guys, why are you deserting me??? I am feeling pretty lost and lonely, could  you at least check my blog 2x/day for a couple days from different computers??  ;-)

Well, you haven't dwindled nearly as badly as I have! I am totally impressed by your friend! You ladies show that the 50's truly rock!

Yikes April ... I check you almost every day! Yes, Merry is awesome (and she looks like a professional runner). Her age graded performance says that it is equivalent to a 2:35 and in the 87.2 percentile! late 40s and 50s are a challenge, I won't lie, but there are some good things too; not running-wise though, it is hard, things hurt and you don't recover nearly as quickly as in your 20s-30s, and you gain weight much easier. But, it is good to be older (and wiser ;-)).

I am glad you are getting back to it April! Are you following pete pfitzinger's training plan? Are you getting a coach?

Stay safe from the tornados!

Bonnie--I followed the plan for about 4 weeks, with the exception of a little 10K race that snuck in week 4. After that I started doing a little more than the plan called for, but not much. Last week at week 5 I ran 6 days in a row and ran 40 miles and everything felt great. I ran a little more this week. I am 100% pain free and am now back to building mileage and running a very, very small amount of speed to get some leg turnover. I am not as conservative as I was the first month but am feeling very confident in my healing right now. No coach--I just can't afford it. I have, however, learned a lesson and will train differently. My whole outlook on running and training has changed, and I am just glad to be out pounding the pavement and getting my therapy again! I need your address to send the ipod holder back!
