10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (10 hilly miles, 1:28:12).  A little on the side of the road, a little off road, a lot of hills.  Last 10` at a little faster than marathon to 1/2 marathon effort (probably about 7:30-7:45 pace).

PM: (4 miles).

I might have to leave my new phone at home so I can get some work done.  It is so cool .... I can't believe I have lived this long without one of these things.  Downside is that when I am at home I can't get 3G service, so it is not as fast.  But as soon as I come "down" the mountain things are just lightening fast.  The new Froyo (Android 2.2) is not actually being distributed yet (except to the geeky developer folks who have "rooted" their phones) -- but even with the earlier version it is soooooo fast.  I can't play today though, I have way too many things to do!!

I hope you all have productive days bloggers!!

It sounds like you're having fun playing with your new toy.

One of my sons is begging for a new phone. And I'm thinking we might have to upgrade to the data plan. Heaven help us all if that happens. The kids will be too wired then.

nice run, you are killing the mileage board.

I think I am the only person in the US who doesn't have a cell phone.

From Nevels on Thu, May 27, 2010 at 17:26:36 from 131.204.15.93

scott, consider yourself lucky. i avoided getting one until i left for college, and in the intervening years have developed the dependency upon it that i so diligently avoided.

(but i'm with carolyn; my phone can only call and text, and my aptitude for texting is a relatively new development...)

Ha ha ha ... you are awesomely cool Scott! Dean and I broke down and got cell phones about 5 years ago. I lost mine at the airport and went out and got a blackberry -- then I got addicted to having access to my email wherever I was. Then, I coveted my friends iPhones, now I am seriously addicted to the coolness of the technology. The worst part is that now I can even read grant applications on a phone!! how horrible is that? I will never be able to escape (except when I run, then it is just me and a tiny little stopwatch).

Dean still doesn't use his phone unless he is out-of-town. He doesn't know how to input names from the keyboard, so calls from his his son, Sam, always comes in as Pam.

Nevels, I never used my blackberry to respond to emails, I just read them (and then freaked out until I could get to a computer to respond). My new phone lets me type amazingly well ... it is not a good thing ... I already am a little high-strung from work, now it is never-ending. I did figure out how to turn off the notification of every single incoming email though -- so at least when it is out-of-sight it is also out-of-mind ;-)

i've had a phone since i was 16, but have still managed to hold out on getting a more tech-savvy phone. mine only calls and texts. really, why do i need more than that? i have to say, when i was recently in washington dc, it was nice to use my friends iphone to look stuff up on google. we were constantly looking stuff up pertaining to the history of a building or person or monument. it was nice and convenient and i would've forgotten what we were talking about by the time we got back to a computer at night. so, i am very torn about cell phones with cool technology.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 27, 2010 at 17:48:04 from 198.241.217.15

I learned how to text only because I have teenagers and that's the only way to communicate with them sometimes.

From Nevels on Thu, May 27, 2010 at 17:51:35 from 131.204.15.93

i finally broke down and got the cheapest texting plan they had after i realized that my friends were going to text me regardless of how many times i asked them not to since it cost me $0.10 per text.

(have yet to figure out why they are perfectly willing to carry on an hours-long conversation via text, but won't answer the phone when i call... i was born in the wrong decade...)

Hmmm....I know nothing of phones. Mine just calls people.

Nice run!! You are tough! I have exactly 90 minutes to finish 10 miles on the TM twice a week and i barely make it! TM's have no hills!!!

From Bonnie on Thu, May 27, 2010 at 19:34:42 from 128.196.228.134

Kelli, I am sure you would run pretty fast on this too (on parts we would have to watch for snakes, it is a good motivator ;-)). You should keep your phone that way, otherwise it is way too much of a distraction!! Hope you sleep better tonight!

I am pretty addicted to my do everything phone. Checking emails, browsing internet, texting the kids at lightning speed. It even takes really good pictures, and I can email them instantly to anyone. Life is too cool sometimes. Have fun with the toy!

From ChrisM on Fri, May 28, 2010 at 15:22:32 from 86.180.138.120

Wow the mobile phone sounds cool!

I linked my googlemail account to the phone.

I get my emails forwarded to googlemail since then you can make it sort out which ones skip the inbox (you can set up rules using if/and/or etc) and then send the others to my phone. So googlemail filters the annoying ones out which don't need to go to the phone. Eg millions of facebook updates!

From Bonnie on Fri, May 28, 2010 at 19:29:13 from 128.196.228.134

Hi Chris, I use gmail as well -- all my profession correspondence goes there from my university account! I like it a lot (the account sizes in gmail are huge, and I was constantly having to clean up my uni account).

The phone is absolutely awesome -- Nexus One is available through Vodafone ;-)
