Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -
We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -
The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi
"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

1:30 PM - Sunny and calm with a temperature around 50, maybe one or two cooler. Was in Pittsfield at Emma's this weekend and we wanted to go for a walk to get out in the fresh air. My left achilles has been a bit sore since the races on Thursday, but nothing compared to what they were like on Turkey Day as I hobbled around the house! Going to take it easy the next couple weeks until student teaching is done on December 11th and then I'll decide on a way to log some easy miles during the winter months in anxious prep for the spring racing season! We went to Dublin Road over by Hancock, MA and went walking a total of 3.1 miles in 50:00. We stopped and looked at a few horses including one that took a fondness to Emmy named Fergie! Also, our engagement photos are finally here! Too bad I didn't get to see them since Emmy got them right after I left today in the mail, but they are up online! Just looked through them. Pretty cool! Now time for lesson planning. Eek!

6:40 PM - Well, it's December! After today I have only 8 days left of student teaching and ever so close to finishing my Master's Degree! The end is in sight! Had a good day at school followed up by going to the dentist's where I had two tiny cavities filled. My only cavities in the last two years, so not too bad. My two brothers went with me too and we were all in and out within thirty minutes. I grabbed a piece of pizza, not the best decision, and then I wanted to go to the track. I had a pretty good run on the track, though my left achilles is still tender on the outside for some reason. Frustrating! My right one was the one that hurt before, and now it's the left. I'm going to try to get a couple more easier runs like this in this week and see where things go from here. Try to build from 20ish miles a week upwards again. When I got to the track my cop-o-phobia kicked in because I was no more than halfway around the track when a cop pulled over a car with its lights flashing. He didn't give them a ticket I don't think because within a minute the cars were both gone, though the cop swung through the track parking lot and I saw him shine his light into my car. It dawned on me that I was breaking the law by running on the track at night, but how can you get a ticket? After all, isn't it safer to run on the track than to legally run on the road in the dark?! Also, it made my day because when I was there at the track I saw that the "Ghost Trucker" runner was there running. He was still there when I left so he must have been logging a log run today! Splits were pretty consistent. Really had a lot of fun running underneath the moon and the clear skies. Was like the daytime!

3:00 PM - Couldn't believe the weather for this time of the year! December 2nd and temperature of 50 degrees! Student teaching was okay today. Although at about 4th period I got a pretty bad headache that got progressively worse, especially once I had my 7th/8th graders in study hall. I went to the nurse and I got 400mg of Tylenol which after about an hour made it bearable. It was not very fun. It got to the point where I had a stomach ache, headache, and I was sweating profusely. Not to mention my head felt like it would explode! I drove to Spa Park, and unbeknownced to me I was following two of my seniors. I was made aware of this fact because Ivan and Niel were in the car and Niel stood up and turned around and yelled "HEY MR. GRIFFIN!" at the top of his lungs right in front of the police department. Haha oh brother. Drove to Spa Park and got changed in my car and then started on the trails. Went all around the park, mixing trails with pavement and throwing in some hills for good measure. My left achilles is feeling a little better. Rain expected tonight. Tomorrow = observation #3 at this placement so I have to go plan a lesson. Oii. I will feel more relieved once the observations are done with! Splits were pretty consistent.

| 12:00 PM - Chilly in the mid 30s with snowflakes falling. I drove to Emmy's house this morning and we decided to go for a hike at Monument Mountain. There were actually a lot of people hiking today, as there is a snowstorm expected to come in later today/tomorrow. Last nice weekend probably of the year. We had a really fun time. It was nice to have an exercise date as it feels like we never see each other! This week coming up is my last week of student teaching though! And then I will officially have my MASTERS DEGREE! Now if only I can find an open Social Studies teaching position! Total hike time was about 1:05:00. |
