Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

Day 19: Legs feel fresh! 20:00 easy recovery run, 2.15 miles total. Ready to get cranking on training tomorrow. I can PEE again! (happy dance). Weight has come back up to 226, but still 5 pounds lighter than before the sickness.

Oh, the Color Run
Your awful burn ain't no fun.
Aloe.... where are you?!

Day 20: 7.5 miles; 4 by myself in 37:30 including 5 x 90 second hills @ 9% grade with 90 second recoveries. Then found we were going hiking on Monument Mountain. Oops. Good training powering up and down on tired legs. So fucking humid though. i couldn't believe how much I was sweating, nearly as much as the ultra a couple days ago. I knew it was getting to Emm too when she turned to me and said, "Can't wait until we move to Bend (OR)". Hallelujah!

Haiku for the day:

Day 21: 5.5 miles in 46:00 including 6 x 800m. Personal Goal was to increase pace slightly between each one. Achieved! Splits were 3:48, 3:43, 3:40, 3:36, 3:29, and went hard 95% effort on the last one, completing it in 3:10. Now that I've reached 21 days, this becomes a habit, right?

800 repeats,
Kicking ass and taking names.
I earned my nap, right?

Day 22: 6 miles in 51:30. Ran steady tempo, with a slightly faster last mile. Pleasantly tired at the end. Pushups tonight and some planks/situps. Got to get this girlish figure looking better.

So this is running,
All it takes is all you've got,
Work hard... big payoff.

On a (+) side, i am down 7 pounds since the start of this challenge. I am eating more healthfully and trying to minimize stress. Feeling better and sleeping better. Starting weight was 231, and I weighed in at 224 today.

Day 23: 7 miles with the last three a little faster. Total time was 1:03, good for 9:00/ mile.

Oh sweat, I loathe thee.
Yet I adore the feeling
Of sweet victory.

Got to get motivated to get at least one more 26+ mile training run in before the 50 miler. Might have to make myself do a long run at Olivia's, as it is pretty good elevation gain, iffy footing, and challenging single track on the way down. I just don't want to embarrass myself too much in the 50 miler. I mean, Anita Ortiz is going to be there after all. Would be nice to have her ONLY beat me by 6 hours or so.

Weighed 226# at the start, and 220# at the end.

Day 24: 4 miles including 6 x 200m @ 6:00 pace (:44 and :45s). Total was 34:30. Felt nice and relaxed, no soreness. Finished it up and then did 75 arm curls with free weights, 60 shoulder lifts, and 75 presses.

Just some 200s

I said as I started them.

And now... humble pie.

Day #25: 2.5 miles total, 1.5 mile around the block with Emm and Lizz after a really awesome day going to see Sturbridge Village and a huge Revolutionary War reenactment. Just way too damn hot and muggy today. 1 mile after by myself.

If sweat were worth gold,
Then I'd be a millionaire.
