Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

4:40 PM - I wish I had better news. Yesterday stunk. I spent the whole day in the ER. My mom fell on the ice when she was trying to load up our garbage can to put in the car to drive to the end of the driveway. If you recall my dad fell a couple weeks ago doing the same thing and he ended up suffering nerve damage in one of his fingers. Well my mom comes in and is yelling "Benn I'm hurt!" so I ran upstairs and she is holding her eye and blood pouring from her hands. I was freaked out. Luckily it was a gash above and to the side of her eye. We put ice on it and I drove her to the hospital and we had to wait more than four hours for her to get seen and discharged despite no one else being in the ER. Figures . Good old doctors for you. And you wonder why men hate going to see those in the medical profession! LOL. She got six stitches and is feeling better today.

Then I go to work today to find out two of many managers got the ax. Borders cut 3% of managerial positions nationwide and it just happened 2 of our managers were on the list :(. Really sucks. Work just isnt the same. And there are too many new rules. It used to be fun working at Borders. Now it's just a chore. Actually am hoping I get let go. Then I could get unemployment!

A little pain on the left knee still. I wish it'd go away.

I am so sorry about your mom :( parents! They are such a pain ;D

Where does your knee hurt? do you know what's injured?

From The Howling Commando on Fri, Mar 06, 2009 at 18:42:57 from 72.224.24.41

I don't know. When I was running back in February it hurt on the outside.. then that pain went away and the last couple weeks it's been hurting in the front of my kneecap. My mom looked at my knees and said its amazing I am as active as I am as i'm bowlegged and my knees go outwards and i'm a heavy pronator and my feet go inwards. Haha. I just hope the pain goes away before i go out on the roads to bike!

Ice melt is a great investment;) No that stinks to fall on the ice. I had an adventure on my bike today and I thought about you, how sweet hu:) Hope your mom feels better soon. I hate ER's, when my daughter went to the hospital a lot, I would just call her doc and we would just bypass the ER all together.

So glad that your Mom is OK... good thing you were there. But I have to agree with Josse... you better get some ice melt.

We had big layoffs at my work about a month ago. This economy is getting scary! I work at an automotive safety company, and car sales are in the toilet! I just keep holding on, hoping things will pick up soon.

Benn, how is your dog? did anyone kick the dog? The sunshine boys, without Kasey, will soon be coming. Just watched a story about being optimistic in tough times. Kinda know your feeling, my mother is getting treatment for her second case of breast cancer. Doom and gloom, lets pray for a bright full moon.
