Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

11:00 AM - Sunny, blue skies for the first time in over a week! So tired of the rain! All the rivers and streams are so overflowed. After waking up and getting coffee and tea and a yummy English muffin with egg whites, Emmy and I went for a bike ride on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. The plan was to bike on the trail to Adams, MA and then continue on to North Adams (about five miles up the road). We nixed this idea because traffic was bad, it was crazy humid, and the roads were just not safe with the wind and traffic to be biking. So we turned around, stopped in Adams to eat an apple, and then continued home on the bike trail. So many other bikers and roller bladers out today!

Some of the highlights of today's ride:

1. I got to go biking with Emmy.

2. Saw a woman wearing crazy go nuts MOON BOOTs (essentially roller blades with the treadmills that are on machine equipment attached to the bottom of them!)

3. Cute little snapping turtle and a bigger painted turtle out on the trail. Moved the snapping turtle, with a stick though because even though it was tiny I'm sure it packed a punch!

4. Lady in flourescent green approached us at about mile 22 and warned us of a big black bear that was on the bike path up ahead. We waited until we saw bikers approaching from that direction, and made a pact to talk loudly to let the bear know we were there and hopefully avoid any unnecessary confrontation!

5. Emma finished the longest bike ride she's ever done! And did it pretty much pain free. Legs felt good it was the shoulder that hurt.

6. Spending time in the great out of doors with the love of my life.

7. Almost had another bike accident today; Heard Emma yell "Watch out! Snake!" Looked down just in time to see a garter snake going schizo. I went off the trail and had to fight to stay upright. Then also almost hit a couple birds. I tell you the animal kingdom is looking to get back at me with a vengeance for my run in with the poor little kitty. :(

Yay, I love turtles, and I too am a turtle saver :)

And for fun, check this out...

Crazy but true. I want the job of teaching the turtles how to use it!

Oh, and good ride, Congrats to Emma!

And, last but not least, I caught the great "out of doors" thing. I see that old woman really started a trend :)

Don't forget, you almost hit a snake, too! And a little boy! (Rather, THEY almost hit YOU).

261,000 bucks a foot?! That's crazy, Kelsey! Reminds me I saw a sign by Emma's house that said "Put America to work" Project. Reminded me that the New York Senate hasn't been working since forever and especially not lately since the "coup" which I'm sure you've all heard about by now. But I do love turtles. So if that tunnel saves turtles and other wildlife then I guess it's worth it. However most of the turtles I've come across like to blaze their own paths, so they'll probably just see it as another obstacle. HAHA

I was on my way home from Wal-fart this morning and heard a radio commercial asking people to protest the turtle tunnel on the fourth of July. I think I should participate in support of the turtle tunnel. Maybe I'll dress up like a turtle or something!

And what is with you and bike accidents these days... glad you didn't hit the snake. Oh, and I guess the little boy too :)
