Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

10:40 AM - After nearly an hour and a half trying to get Aggie inside I ended up locking her in the garage through an ingenious trail of American Cheese. Just like Hansel and Gretel. Today's forecast was highs in the upper 40s, but windy. Winds were between 15 and 20mph, but today was my only chance to get in a ride, so I layered up with two bottoms, then put on a long sleeve sport shirt, the bike jersey Julian gave me and a purple fleece and headed out on a ride. I was taken aback by just how powerful the wind really is. As I went through Galway, Ballston, Charlton, Burnt Hills, Scotia, and Providence, I got to see a lot of the countryside that I love about this part of NY. Only downer was rude / unaware drivers. I would need about five hands to count the number of times people gunned their trucks past me without leaving adequate room and at least a set of toes for the numer of semis that I almost careened into. I think drivers are just unaware that if you drive too close to a biker, especially when there is a severe cross wind, you risk sucking him and his bike into your car! At least I made it back in one piece. My aunt Jane is up here for Easter. She just flew in from Tennessee. Time to go help my mom go Easter shopping and then back to do loads of homework! This was by far the hardest ride I've ever done, but also the most rewarding. I think that century better watch out! The Howling Commando's ready to slice and dice baby!

WOW. Great ride! I am glad you made it out alive. Enjoy the shopping!

Sounds like a nice ride. I was hoping to get into Cornell for a Ph.D this fall, but they turned me down. Upstate New York is really nice.

Yeah upstate NY is really nice! Why'd they turn you down? Those boobs! They don't know what they're missing!

Wow! Very impressive ride. Your turning into the next Lance. Are you still thinking some running will be in your future?

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Apr 09, 2009 at 22:47:44 from 72.224.24.41

Ideally I want to still shatter my marathon PR and complete a few ultras. I don't know what the "Big Guy" has in store for me though. I am just thankful that I have found I am okay on the bike :). Maybe I can do some jogging again. For now though hiking and biking are definitely making up for my hiatus from the running scene. Besides the sooner I come back to running, the sooner you all get obliterated! *almost said that with a straight face!!*

They didn't give a specific reason for turning me down, but I would guess it was my low Physics GRE score. I hate that test!! They also said that they had a lot of applications and only 5 spots to fill.

Your willpower and determination put me to shame. Way to go, handsome one!
