objective: deal with painful blisters and run through any additional foot pain before it gets dark.

Used a liberal amount of vaseline to cover the blister which is 1/3 the size of my foot. not really a blister anymore but raw skin. didn't need the advil today for my ball of foot pain...felt yesterday's workout a little bit i guess since i didn't really feel like i had a good pop in my stride.

decided to not add on any additional miles to avoid bats and not overdo it cause i plan on doing 5x1000 tomorrow on the road with the gps. No more track until the blister heals. i think the road is flat enough that it will be close to the track in terms of speed. not enjoying the road pounding. i hope that by this weekend i'll be ok to venture out on the trails again, at least ones that aren't too rocky.

objective met!

Are you making fun of my objective thing or are you embracing it? It does seem a bit hokey now that I think about it. I do suggest getting some long road runs in to get used to the pounding. The road will slow you down around mile 18-22 if you aren't used to it.

totally making fun of you! i refuse to do a long road run if i can avoid it. may have to if my body keeps rejecting the trails. i think i have enough of a cushion on you that i can afford to slow down...

Ok, removed all of the objective stuff. But really, I am feeling pretty confident right now. We will see how the half marathon goes, but I am thinking of racing not much slower than your recent threshold workout (6:20 pace is my goal). And as for the marathon, at least I have a long race which indicates sub 3. We should talk a little strategy for both the half and full soon. What kind of pace do you want to start at? I figure we should run the first 9 or 10 for the half and the first 18 for the marathon. I don't know if we should try to even split, or positive split and by how much. I really doubt that I could negative split and actually get my best time. But I don't want to bank too much time. I am thinking start at 6:45 for the marathon (but no faster). And the half pace is even more delicate. Maybe starting at 6:20 for the first few miles and trying to speed up from 3-8 assuming that we won't be able to hold it for the last 5.1 miles.

i think i can for sure hold 6:20 on a flat 1/2 marathon course in a race. i have to be faster than when i ran a 1:24 on a hilly course in 2005. i'm planning on going out in 6:20 in the half. I always fade in almost every race so i need to go out at a decent pace. what is sub 3? I think i'll start around 6:50 for the marathon. as it is uphill through mile 2.
