AM It is official I'm the new head Cross country coach at East High school.  So move into East High boundaries  I plan to do it for a long time and want to build a strong program. So get your young kids training, I can't wait to work with them.  The next generation of champions.  I carried my phone on my morning run, which I never do thinking I might get the call today.  And the school did call to let me know on my second lap.  The third lap flew by with things running through my mind of what needs to be done next.  Any words of advice will always be listened to and appreciated.  6 miles around Sugar House Park.

Speed work tonight at Highland track with Wasatch Athletics.  Normal warm up and tonight coach took it easy on us because of the Heart of Holladay 5K this Saturday most of us are doing.  I did 11@ 400 meters All but one I hit 1:15 to 1:17 and the last one I pushed it a little and went 1:07. Finished with a long cool down which made it 14 miles for the workout and hit Del Taco for Tuesday Taco Nite. 3 for 99 and fed a car full of seven kids for a little over seven bucks.

I have no words of advice, but congrats!

Congrats, Bill! But I thought you were coaching already? Maybe not as a head coach?

Bill - congratulations (or condolences?) on the new position. High school running could be greatly improved if the kids build a solid base before doing speed work. If I were coaching a high school team, any distance (800+) runner who logged less than 45 miles a week in the last four weeks would not even be touching the track. Somebody who breaks 30.0 in a 200 should be breaking 5:00 in the mile with just base. If they are not, they should be working on base.

Congratulations! XC is a lot of fun to coach. Pretty soon Sasha will have to rename the site fastrunningXCcoaches.com

I would talk to Bob about some of the runs around the area. He is the head for boys' XC next year @ Judge. Are you having an XC camp later this summer? Call the county today and reserve Cottonwood Complex for Region and a few home meets. In the past several Regions vie for Cottonwood on the same day but some of them run different courses (Bingham especially).

I agree with Sasha on that one, less fast fixes, more work.

Congrats Bill, I think you will really enjoy your role as head coach. Keep it fun for the kids and just enjoy your time.
