Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

At stake conference today, I was reminded that discouragement is of the devil.  Guess I should stop being discouraged.

Our stake conference is next week. But in priest quorum today I was reminded of forgiveness. The instructor posed the question - have you ever been falsely accused? I remembered back to when I was a freshman in high school and the varsity basketball squad was smoking marijuana on the bus. I had no idea because I was in the very front, but a sophomore kid that didn't like me (also Mormon) blamed me for narking them out. Nothing ever came of it, but I never forgave him. I did forgive the varsity squad because they were a bunch of sorry losers that only won one game all season. Later my brother let the air out of that guy's tire and taped the valve stem to his window.

Hey Wes, as someone who has missed a lot of running days from one injury or another, I can assure you it will end. And when you finally start, it's fun to get that steep improvement grade on the way back to your old level. It really doesn't take very long. Hang in there. You're not getting any better of course, but the good thing is you aren't getting any worse either.

Wes, that reminds me of a story of when I was discouraged - I was a senior on the HS basketball team and was getting high in the back of the bus (a pregame ritual), when this little freshman ratted us all out. Later, I found all the air let out of my....WAIT A SECOND! Why you...

Uh-oh!

Hahaha! Thanks guys. I appreciate the stories - serious, life-lessons, and even the humorous. I *DO* have to remember that I'm not getting much worse. Riding the bike today was good. There's a hill on the way home that's pretty long and fairly steep. It's one where you can only see about 200 - 300m ahead, then it turns about 45 degrees so you can't see around the bend. Then there's another section and another bend. I know that after the 4th turn that it flattens out to a mild incline. I really wanted to walk it by the time I got to the hill, but I had to play the mind game of just getting to that corner then I'd walk...but, of course, I didn't. I was in the second to the lowest gear so I'm sure I looked like I was on a stationary bike, but it was a good workout and lifted the spirits some.

I know that probably everyone has been through times like this - some more than others, but it sure is tough when my training has been more constrained by work and my schedule than by an injury. I'll make it through it and come out stronger, just like yinz!
