Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

3:30pm, 35o , slightly windy

1 out of 2 ain't bad.  Didn't get caught up on my work yet, but I did get a run in!  Definitely the more important of the two...shhhh!  My boss isn't on the blog...

Headed out after another day of meetings for a nice run.  Had to jog over to the local library (.5mi away) to return a book that I had found in the snow a few days ago.  After dropping that off, my run really began.  I did a nice loop on the city streets out to one of the 5 million bridges in Pittsburgh, and crossed over the river.  Right before getting to the other side of the 31st St bridge is a small island that I've always wanted to run on, so I hopped off the bridge early and down the ramp to the island.  Ran around the island...it's not huge or anything...then back up to the bridge, and then back into downtown.  The run itself was 5.26mi - did it in 50:31 (9:40 pace or so).  Faster than I had thought I was running, but I knew it wasn't 11:00 pace either.  Felt very comfortable and I didn't try and push it at all.  The achilles reminded me it was there every once in a while, but it wasn't telling me to stop.  No walking on this run, so I was feeling good despite being exhausted the last couple of days.

Oh, and the last mile?  My wife was heading back from the University on the bus and I was going to meet her at the car that I park 1.5mi from work so I can get some exercise walking in, and I was late leaving work so she was going to beat me there.  I decided to jog the last mile to the car with my backpack on so I wouldn't be too late.  So that's how I get to the 6.76 miles today!

Way to be a good Samaritan and bring back the discarded library book.

I'm glad you got your priorities straight! Nice use of time, and nice running.

Thanks Burt. I saw it in the snow as I was walking to my car last week after work. Initially, I considered leaving it since, surely, the child who had dropped it would be back once he/she noticed it had fallen out. But then I became curious. I wonder what great literary work was lying in the cold, wet snow. Was it Thoreau? Hemmingway? How about Charles Dickens or the greatest of them all, Dr. Seuss? Didn't look like one of those slutty romance books with the half naked ripped dude on the front.... I pick it up and I notice the category sticker - African American. OK, no biggie. The title? God Don't Like Ugly. You can check it out (or the whole God Don't Like Ugly Series) from your local library or purchase it here, from Amazon (providing the link as a convenience since I'm nice like that): http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Like-Ugly-Mary-Monroe/dp/0758220324/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267587149&sr=8-1

As of 10:35pm EDT, it is in stock and there are used copied available for purchase. That may change by Midnight, so act fast! Again, just trying to be the good Samaritan that I am. Enjoy!

Oh, forgot to reply, Joe. My priorities could not be straighter. Of course, if he'd give me paid time to run I wouldn't have to run to my car carrying my heavy backpack in my leather jacket sweating my booty off, just to get in that last mile. Curse him!

Good job fitting a run in.
