In late 2008 I decided I needed to get in better shape and started running again.  I ran my first formal road race ever, a half marathon, in late 2009.

Half - 2:02:58 - Just a Short Run on 03/27/2010
1:51:47 - IKEA Montour Trail Half on 09/11/2010

Short-Term Running Goals:

2011 Races:

Sept 25 - The Great Race 10k (59:15)
Nov 5 - Dirt Monster 5mi (52:59)

2012 Races:

June 8 - Riverside 5k  (27:49)
Sept 2 - Gatorade Steelers 5k (route) with Steve!  (27:39)
Sept 30 - The Great Race 10k (route)  (53:48)
Nov 3 - The Dirt Monster 5mi (52:55)

2013 Races:

May - Pittsburgh Marathon (started, but DNF about the half way point)
June - Riverview 5k  - Bummed I missed signing up for this one. It's one of my favorites!
Sept - Gatorade/Steelers 5k. (Signed up!)
Sept - IKEA Montour Trail Half  (prob not, but leaving it on here)
Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

37o, windy

Nice run today.  Warmed up on the TM then ran outside.  Relatively flat course but it was pretty windy through parts of it and traffic was pretty bad since it was rush hour.  Very easy run, no strain.  Here's the splits:

1 - 9:10
2 - 9:35
3 - 9:50 (windy)
4 - 9:10
5.15 - 11:19 (9:50)

Rest day tomorrow then a longer run on Saturday.

Feelin' so good today I decided to go ahead and sign up for the Half on the 27th.  Here's the course in case you want to join me!  :-)

Great run, I despise wind. And smart move signing up for the race. For me, I like that they're always non-refundable. No turning back now! That's cool that the course is completely contained within a park.

Thanks Joe. When you're wearing clothes that have the same properties as MC Hammer's parachute pants and shirts, it probably feels a lot worse than it is. If ever there is an 80's run, I've got my outfit! Good thing my head is aerodynamic or I may not have made it through the run!

The non-refundable part IS the nice part. Although, waiting until the day of or the day before is nice if the weather may go bad on ya. In my case, this is going to just be a long training run rather than a race. I hesitate to ever call the "races" I do races. The true "racers" (in my mind) are the ones at the front of the pack fighting to break the tape...or maybe racing to place in your age group. For me, it's a run...yes, I suppose I'm racing against myself, but until I LOOK fast and consider myself fast, it's just a "fast" run.

After today, I'm really looking forward to it!

Yeah it's definitely a "race" against the clock (and yourself) in my very limited experience. You should run your race in acid wash jeans and a jean jacket. Maybe Doc Martens if you have some nice orthotics.

Good idea! Since it's just a long run and I'm not supposed to push it, I'd might as well sport some flashy outfit! If I don't get attention because I'm leading the race, I'd might as well draw some attention with my outfit! I've got to get on that!

Nice workout wind can back things tough. As for the race looks fun to be, I just wish it was closer.

Thanks Matt. I posted the link, knowing that there's only a handful of bloggers that are even within driving distance of the race! One day I'll have to get out to UT and run with some of you guys!

I'm looking for your Saturday long run--you haven't posted it yet, nor have you emailed me! Wes, Wes, are you OK??

BTW, wind sure does make a HUGE difference, but hey--better now than race day! You can be so thankful to face the wind now, and just be glad you're not racing in it. It makes you tougher! :-)

...Need I say more?

Cara - just fired off an email to you and I'm going in to blog my Saturday run now. :-)
