Raining cats and dogs all morning.  I looked at the weather radar on the drive down and there was a big cell right over Ogden.  It didn't disappoint at the start, headwind and pouring.  I decided on a 6:20 pace considering my fitness and ran almost right on except for some fade on the last two miles.  No Garmin today and enjoyed the absence. Good race for me, on the pace I want and pretty relaxed.

The slower pace today meant I was way back in the pack today, but with the continuous rain and wind it ate up the field.  This run was passing people the entire 26 miles since I was so slow at the start.  At 16 miles I came up to Walter who was weaving about the road.  I walked with him for a few minutes and it was a close call for me to not call it off and find some help.  But he answered some questions good and I got back to work.  Total downer to see him walking.  I felt today was a 2:35 for him.

Hats off to the lead pack.  Some great times considering what the run was like.

Wow, what a rough day weather-wise. How was the wind for the 12 miles of rollers around the lake? Congrats on a good performance.

Good run Steve.

I think those rollers were why I finished 7th even though I was running a pretty slow pace. The wind wasn't strong through the race, maybe six or seven miles per hour, but it was blowing the rain in your face the whole time. I think a lot of runners killed themselves into that wind and rain for 8 miles so I had an advantage in that I was running for myself today. Just felt good to be marathoning again

Nice work Steve. That's really a great result for you I think with all the struggles and trials you've had to overcome in recent months. You ran a very smart race and it paid off.

Always good to see you.

WOW!!! That is an easy race for you??? My hat is definitely off! (If I had a hat!)

Congrats!!!

And ... you still owe me a pack of PEEPS (now with interest)! :)

Great job today winning the masters...Like always, it was fun talking to you before and after the race, and while picking up the awards :-).

I did not use the word easy at any point!

Great race Steve, and very impressive without a garmin. Glad to see you feel strong again and back at marathoning

Wow, it sounds like everyone needs to take 5 or 10 minutes off their time to get the credit they deserve for this one. Glad you did well!

Thanks for being there and helping me Steve. I would've felt bad if you tried to stop and help me! I'm glad for friends like you on the running environment. Even if my ass was shown to my competition. Pantsing is so fun...wait for your turn!

Thanks guys. See Walter, you have a good memory from the race. You now owe me.

From Walter on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 19:36:18 from 97.48.204.207

Steve, you bore my all and stole my prize. Expect no mercy!

Nice job! I remember two years ago--some fast, older, blond-haired dude go flying by. The first time I was destroyed by you in a marathon.

It is good to see your fitness coming back. Way to gut out a good marathon under such soggy conditions.
