Spring R2R2R with Matt Kemp, Jed Winder, Mike Rice, Paul Moody and Mandi Mcbride. All very good trail runners. Started South to North this time in a snowstorm on the Bright Angel trail. It blew over as expected within an hour and we had temps mostly in the 50s for the day. Matt had issues at 13 miles in and by 18, Cottonwood, I told him I'd go back with him. Mandi and the others went on and had one of the quicker runs, she came back under 13 hours. Matt and I ran up the Kaibab which was a first for me. Awesome day and great run.

Solid run. What's that, your 10th R2R2R? I wonder what the record is?

Well this is the third one I haven't finished. That is a record probably

Davy Crockett, formerly of FRB, has run about as many miles in the canyon as anyone. Phil Lowry has also done a ton. I'm sure some Flagstaff locals make it a lot, too.

Sounds like another fun and successful run. Down Bright Angel and up Kaibab is a good mixture.

No interest in running what either of them did. Total yawners. Harvey Buchart remains the only traveler of the canyon that really experienced it. His routes are the ones I'm starting to follow. But the group thing once or twice a year will always be something special. You guys know how it is. If I had one thing left to choose to do, to make a difference, it would be to run with great runners through that canyon as many times as life offered the opportunity.

I've never heard of Harvey before. Sounds like he really knew that place- 100 approaches to the river.

The University of Arizona has a department that has an incredible amount of information about the GC. Most available online. I got all Harvey's diaries and hand drawn maps from them.
