I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

Easy run in Whatcom Falls.  HR 132.  Rain, wind and colder, just when I thought Spring might be here!

Added a plank workout late this morning.  My daughter is on a campaign to get our "bikini" bodies ready for Hawaii in 10 days.  Yikes!  I didn't realize it was so close.  Sadly, my daughter does not admit that my bikini body was a while ago (years?)

Track workout this morning.  It had to be early, at 5am, because I had yoga at 7 and had to get on the road after that to drive down to Olympia (2.5 hours) and bring some of my son's stuff back up here for Spring quarter.  He will be studying in Panama for 9 weeks and wanted to move his personal things out of his shared house.  We spent HOURS figuring out which back pack to take - the big one or the really tiny one.  Honestly, I don't know how he is going to sleep in a hammock for nine weeks and have only two pairs of underwear, but I am sure he will make it work.  He also has two knives, which just shows the relative importance of these items in his life.  Anyway, he agreed to the larger backpack, because he needed more books and stuff for his field work.  He's very excited about this trip, but I probably won't hear from him much - he is getting a SAT phone for emergencies, but doesn't expect any cell phone service or internet.

I did the assignment for track this morning, then felt frisky, so I added a couple of 400m at 1:40 each.  It was super windy out!  On one side of the track, I was being blown back so strongly that I felt stalled.  I really love fighting the wind this way - its like arm wrestling for control.  I like winning too.

No running today!  A little skate ski instead.  Just an hour and a half, since I really didn't have so much time today,  but worth it all the same.  We have had some new snow and it was still snowing when I got up there at 3pm.

Long run today with MP miles in the middle.  It winded and rained so hard all last night that I couldn't really sleep; the little sleep I had was so disturbed by the wind.  I really thought it would be all over by morning, but no such luck!  We started at 6, with driving rain and 24 mile an hour winds, with even stronger gusts.  So, the warm up bits along the waterfront were a bit rough, but, as usual, once you are out there and wet, you really don't notice it.

I am very happy with this run.  11.5 miles at average pace of 8:26 (mp is 8:20, so a bit off), and some 9:30 average stuff the last five miles.  Managed to consume a lot of fuel and drink a lot of water.  Felt like a strong long run. Next week's long run will be just as long, but fewer MP miles I think.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.  The world is so turbulent right now; I am truly wondering where this all leads.  So much chaos.
