I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

We did our 1 mile time trial today.  Started at 7:00; weather was perfect; 60 degrees, clear skies.  I had my goal, which was to run it in 6:40, based on my earlier season 5K pace of 7:30/mile.  Coach said to wait until 3rd lap to increase speed.  I had been thinking to wait until lap 4, because I know that I can always kick at the end.  Anyway, my first lap was way too fast (1:25), so I ended up not speeding up at all until the final stretch.  Final time was 6:10!

As much as I complained about this run, it really was an incredible confidence booster.  Everyone in my group has improved fitness dramatically throughout the training, and it showed.  Best of all, for me, was that there was NO ASTHMA whatsoever.  I was breathing hard, and my lungs were burning after, but no wheezing.

How about that, speedy! I'm glad it boosted your confidence. I've been thinking of trying a mile time trail, but I haven't done it.

Did you run a warmup before doing the fast mile?

From Bonnie on Sat, Aug 22, 2009 at 14:04:24 from 128.196.228.134

By the way auntie speedy. You have some great racing ahead of you. There is no way I could ever run a 6:10 mile, and I am not being humble, it is just the way it is! My 5K pr is faster than yours (and I think I could run close to 20:58 or so right now) but there is no way I could run a mile that fast! This means that you have some great leg speed to develop. How exciting!!!

Carolyn: Yep, we did a mile or so running warm up, some exercises, and strides first.

Bonnie: Thanks. My 5K time is probably not very accurate any more. Based on today's time, adding back 16 seconds per mile for 5K, my new predicted 5K is about 18:48. I don't really believe that, and it will be a while before I find out, as I'm not planning any 5Ks for a long time!

Holy crap that's fast!!! You were thinking 6:40 and you went 6:10!! Exclamation point!! A sub 19 5k is in you just waiting to come out! Good job!!

Zippety-doo-dah you're fast!!! Don't enter any small races with me, ok? You're in my AG. Just kidding! I am honored to know you, and Sno's biggest rival is Sno. :)

Thanks, everyone. I like all the exclamation marks everyone used!!!! JD - I would love to have a sub 19 5K someday! Wow!
