I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

I went to my early morning group workout for hill workout, but I couldn't do the faster intervals on the hills; IT band still somewhat tight.  I will save the hard work for next week.  I did a few easy and a few MP miles instead.  Its a beautiful morning to be out early.

Since running is so light this week, I'm going for a longish bike ride this afternoon.

Nice 25 miles on the bike.  Felt really strong on the hills, no pain in the IT.  Its really cloudy here now, like its about to rain, so I feel like I better run outside and do yard work now before it hits.

Good call. Take it easy with that IT band. Have fun on the bike!

#@%! IT band! It does eventually go away. I do a specific stretch for mine everyday since the last episode (last August), and it really seems to help if I stay on top of it.

JD - Oooh, post a video of you doing your stretch, so I can learn it. Did you find that hills made it worse? Or faster speeds? I'm still tryin' to figure out where it came from.

For me, running downhill always aggravated it. Running uphill was kind of a relief actually. It would take me a week to get a video posted up here so I'll try a description of the stretch. I lye flat on my back, and while keeping one leg to the floor I raise the other leg straight up, 90 degree angle to my body, then I lean the raised leg ever so gently toward my body until I feel the "burn" and hold it for a few seconds. As with all stretching, it's easy to overdo this one. I don't know if this makes sense.

Yes, JD, that does make sense. Certainly as much sense as a video. I'll add that to my bag of IT tricks.

That sounds like a ITB stretch that my friend who is a PT taught me. Only she had me do it with a strap around my foot, holding the two loose ends of the strip in my hands.

AWESOME WORKOUTS today! Hope that darn IT band feels better soon. YOGA hip openers work miracles!

I wish I could bike like that. But I guess I'd have to get a decent bike and ride it a lot.
