I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

Nice recovery day.  Just a few easy, easy, easy miles.  Had a nap and have been puttering around in the yard.  The weather is perfect!  Mid to high 70s with a little breeze and clear skies.  I am going to go over and flop in the lake soon.

My left IT band is really sore/tight after yesterday.  It was already before the race and is worse now.  I've been icing it and gently stretching and will probably have to get a massage tomorrow or the next day.

Just starting to get the post race let down sadness.  I just have to blow through this, but its kinda hard.  Don't know why it happens.  I started out today feeling happy about my race, my time, my place, etc.  Now I wish I had done better, run faster, not used my inhaler, not run in a tunnel with a band, etc. etc.  Its a bit ridiculous.

Tomorrow is back to regular training, I think.  We've got yet another new track workout and it sounds pretty fun - fast bursts with short bursts mixed in.  I don't believe I'll ever get tired of these fun workouts!

Sounds like you are having GREAT day minus the running blues. I swear running is just like having a baby, mood swings, pain and all ;) Hang tough sister. Nothing like a new workout to cheer you up :)

New track work out? Fun! can you modify these for the streets? Just wondering b/c I don't have easy access to a track...

So interesting how you are feeling a little down after your race. I've never had that happen to me from a running race, but last year I completed a half Ironman triathlon, and I was just so down afterwards. I just didn't enjoy the race (storms made the swimming and biking very hellish) or feel the sense of accomplishment I usually do. My time was just so fair. I felt like I had trained so hard for nothing. It was a total bummer. I thought I was the only person to feel like that after a race .. .guess not. I need to find your race report now, but I'm sure I'll be very admiring :).

This blues afterwards is just something I do after a race; it doesn't have anything to do with my perception of how I did. I get a real high, then the next day I suffer. Its like I'm an adrenaline junkie or something. The key seems to be to get out and run more!
