Morning trek to the Oval for weekly turn and burn in what seemed like an endless march in circles.  I actually managed to pull out for 18 miles again this Saturday and after a fairly fast one mile warm up I then began the 3x2 mile AT tempo. Ok, so.. My first lap splits were at 1:25-26 which if my math is correct converts to roughly around 5:15-17/mile pace and a 1:27-28 second/lap (5:20-5:23) on the next mile. (11 laps = 3 miles.) @ 442 m per lap.  The pace felt fine I think I just felt kind of flat and out of gas and this was probably because of the overall faster and higher mileage this week.  In light of that I decided to cut the session short to 3 miles and then proceeded to run up to investigate the identity of a  lady I kept seeing running the other way. Sure enough it was Rachel aka RAD from the blog.   We had some good conversation and I ran with her for a couple of miles and then also with her friend whom I found out was an electrical engineer and a really nice guy.  Always good to meet new faces here.  Ok .. I'm not really into writing long and winded blog entries so time to cut to the chase;  I managed to finish the rest of my run at 6-6:30/mile pace with the last miles at sub six a short cool down mile.

Next week I think it might be time to just maintain the mileage but shift the emphasis to some short speed sessions with full recovery for a couple of weeks.  Hopefully this will wake up those fast twitch fibers some more.  The 5k is not a lope after all.  Out..

18 miles at the Oval? I'm speechless - but impressed and am not optimistic about my chances against you in your "Masters Debut" coming up.

I'm going down to Albuquerque next weekend to run the USATF Masters Indoor T&F Championships. I'm racing the mile and the 3000! After that, the Leopard Run 5k. I talked to Bill today and he said he altered the course a bit to be even faster.

Oh yes.. my "debut". Just put more pressure on me why don't you? LOL!

We are all expecting you to lay waste to the Utah masters field.

Well, we'll see. I think some guys will have something to say about that first. I am definitely going to be in it though..

Hey you two, I was talking to Jeff Shadley and we want to get a Maters team together for Boston marathon for 2012. The times to beat from last year are within our range. I believe you have to have 7 on the team with top 4 or 5 recorded. Steve Hooper may even let us use his name to beat the big boys. I wanted to let you guys know because they are opening the registration early this year for 2012 to us so think about it and let me know what you think.

Nice thought Walt.. Don't get me wrong it sounds like a heck of a lot of fun and I sure would like to but there's this little thing called "money". How would we get there and where would we stay? Overall how much would it cost? Money or lack of it is the only reason I don't race at every 5k that comes up.

What? Walter's old now too? Jeez, this just keeps getting harder every year.

I'd almost bet that not too many other states have the kind of depth in their masters category like we do. Would I be far off in saying so?

We could totally dominate if we get together!
