I've been working a lot so not much in the way of mileage tonight, but that's ok I keep telling myself that I'm building up slowly over time!  Helps me to feel better about my training or the lack therof so to speak.. Even so I refuse to quit running completely. And if there is one thing all my years of marathoning has taught me, it is that you never quit when things get tough. You can always reach deep inside and take just one more step or just one more stride.  Other folks may give up on you, but if you quit on yourself it's game over..     Dark Horse out.

4 easy miles total at 65-75% mhr.

Nice observation on running. Do you notice that when you don't run as much you loose your fitness or speed? Or does it work the opposite way? Where your not sore when you start back up and your legs feel fresh and faster.

I'm trying to figure out how to cut back a little bit but not loose fitness. I know I could do shorter runs with speed work and that would help to cut mileage but still have the intensity.

Truer words never spoken. Don't let what other people say/think about you get in the way of your dreams. I need to emphasize that to my kids.

Kory, You can cut back quite a bit on either distance or intensity but not both.. In fact I would be as bold to say half for up to 4-6 weeks without any significant loss of fitness. Most runners don't realize that they run their best marathon based on their last 5-7 years of training. Whatever you lose by cutting back right now will come back in dividends later next year by being fully recovered. Hope that helps.
