AM: Recovery run. This week is about rest with maintenance. I’m planning on about equal mileage but done in all two-a-days with a great focus on sleep (after last night). I was in work a little before 5:15am. Only had about 5-hrs of sleep. A lot going on again. My legs definitely let me know that I had raced on Sat. My left hams and right glut were very tight to start but felt “better” by the end. Just headed toward lower campus and back. Mi 4-R2 Avg. 8:30 HR 147

PM: Ready, steady, go. Still feeling sore but the nap helped as did keeping it easy. Ran to SH most of the way around and back. Nothing note worthy... Mi 6-R2 Avg. 8:32 HR 135

Being sore means you raced hard, or maybe haven't done many hills like that. I was sore after the 5k and 10k, but have no soreness yesterday or today.

I hope your able to get more rest. Do you ever have a chance to take a nap during the day? When I've actually had a chance to do so it helps me so much. I wish we had more than 24 hours a day... sleep is now something I don't overlook like I did when I was younger.

Your relaxed pace will get your legs back where they need to be. It's rewarding to know your sore, because of the hard work you put into Saturday's race.

Jon, I think the hills did me in. It has been awhile since I've raced on the downhills like miles 2 and 8. I'm glad to hear you are no worse for the wear. What is your time goal for the half?

Kory, I was for the first time able to sneak out for an hour nap at lunch today. Doing the shorter run in the morning and getting in so early today I had a free momment and went for it. I don't think I slept the whole hour but it was nice to at least rest some...

I would be real happy with anything sub-1:16. We shall see...

Adam, I'm from Michigan originally and can't say I love running in St Louis, but will say there are some great places to run here considering it is a metro area. Its certainly not northern Michigan, but Forest Park, Grant's Trail, Webster, Kirkwood, Castlewood Park, etc. are great places to run.

From Adam RW on Tue, Mar 18, 2008 at 07:16:45

Jeff, I've only been to N MI a few times (as well as the UP). Spent a lot of time in N WI growing up (originally from Chicago). What I liked about St. Louis running were the groups. There were a few that got together at a regular bases at least twice a week and usually more often. But you hit the list of good places to run. I also liked some stretches of the Katey Trail for my 20-milers...
