Ok, not a god day for running for me. My right foot was in extreme pain this morning and I had to call it quits and turn back. I have rarely ever had to do this. I am usually pretty stubborn and will run through almost any pain. However, this morning was unbearable. My right foot hurts with every step on the inside top portion of the foot up about an inch from the top inside ankle area. Hard to describe but it is a very sharp pain that I could not continue to run on. I hit the elliptical for 20 minutes and it does not hurt on the elliptical. I jogged a little and it does not hurt as bad as this morning but it is still there. I went to the doctor and they took an x-ray but did not really see anything but also said that it is hard to detect a stress fracture with just an x-ray. They will order further tests if it still bothers me after doing the ice and ibuprofin routine a little longer. They suggested taking some time off and seeing if it starts to feel better. I am not one for taking time off so this is really a bummer for me. As I said I usually can just run through most injuries and just deal with the pain. I will ice again tonight and continue ibuprofin and see how it feels in the morning. If it feels ok I will probably go ahead and run but if it is still bothering me I may take a few days off and just hit the elliptical. I really do not need this right now. It is depressing to think about not being able to run right now.

I have a stress fracture in my left femur. The doctor x-rayed it too and said the same as your doctor. I had a bone scan and it really showed. As the scan progressed I saw two things that stood out. The first was a bright white area where they injected the "dye". And the second was exactly where my pain had been coming from. It was definitely a stress fracture. I also remember the tech who gave the test said something about hard to detect a fracture in the ankle area. Something about the angle. Not really sure about that though.

Good luck and I hope you heal soon and run pain free.

I will pray for you Ted that your healed from this. Your fitness is peaking right now so I can imagine how you feel. I think it's smart to break off the run than cause more damage. Your a strong person and you will recover from this. I don't want to see you go without doing what you love.

Stick with the treatments and hope for the best. In the meantime, you can maintain good fitness on the elliptical.
