Running? What is that? I don't remember ever doing any running... maybe it's something I did in a previous life...

A few hours after the doctor drained my bursitis last Friday, it was all back. The doctor didn't tell me to wrap my knee tight or anything... I should've done that... I iced it and kept it wrapped tightly throughout the weekend and yesterday, but it looks exactly the same today. So frustrating... I called the doc and she said to make an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon to maybe get a cortizone shot. I'm going to give it a few more days - I leave for Argentina on Sunday anyway, so I won't be able to take care of it before then. I've been reading a lot about bursitis, and it seems that in most cases it goes away within a week... so I still haven't lost hope.

I had my class midterm yesterday and I did alright, I think. It looks like I won't be wasting my money this semester after all! That's a big plus... Now if I could only run!!! Or bike!!! Or swim!!! It's amazing how much we rely on our knees for everything... I am stuck doing some abs workouts, but even for some of those you have to use your knees!!!

:-(

Yeah its amazing just how much we use your knees. I hope it only starts feeling better now. The vacation sounds great though.:)

Send a postcard! And do some pullups.

Don't worry too much, you are young and will recover fast and be back to running in no time. Have a great vacation! I want to see some pictures posted :)

A few years back I got hit by a pickup truck. Nothing serious but I had bursitis - it can take a while but it does go away especially if you keep moving the affected area.

You don't need your knees to eat giant solomillos in Argentina so have fun!

Burt, that one is always funny.

Thanks guys! I haven't been home in 2 years, so it'll be very nice to be there.

Rocinante that is great news (not that you were hit by a truck but that the bursitis did go away with time).... And you have to keep moving the affected area, really? Most online articles about it say you should rest the affected area... maybe I should try exercising it more... Thanks

Well, I'd listen to the doctor rather than to me but I'm not so sure about online articles. I had bursitis at the top of my left leg, buttocks area. I kept walking right after being hit - to give you an idea, my 15 min walk to work took an hour for the first week afterwards. I went to see a sports doctor doctor said to keep that up and added in some range-of-motion stretching exercises with a sort of rubber band. It took about 8 weeks to get fully back to normal but I feel that if I'd let it rest it would have stiffened up even more. I got a lot of advice to rest it but the sports doctor said the opposite.

My general philosophy is to keep exercising injuries just a little bit past where your body starts to complain. Also, since the lymphatic system can only pump fluid around if you move around I'm convinced that exercise is critical.

Have you seen a doctor who specializes in sports injuries?

My god Lucia! Mouth wired shut...bursitis...and you still keep going..yer a champ!

I recently injured my achilles and had to do some swimming to keep exercising while it healed. I took a styrofoam dumbell thingy and held it between my ankles so I was just using my uopper body to swim. Its still a really good workout. Have a great trip!
