Ran to the office from home on a gorgeous morning, a bit coldish (45-ish) but warmed up later on. Left heel hurts a bit, tendon hurts a bit. Went pretty slow but did a couple of faster 300-400 meter intervals.

Now I have to decide my "strategy" for the next 2 weekend races... I have a 10-miler this Sunday, and an 8k the following Sunday. The 8k is for a group race that my company is sponsoring, and we have a chance of winning a prize, so I want to race that one really well. The question is, can I/should I try to go fast this weekend on the 10-miler, or would that hurt my chances of doing well on the 8k? I feel like at this point I don't really have a chance of PRing on the 10-miler, but I probably can do better than last year on the 8k... Thoughts?

TGIF!!!

Whit you pains, I would suggest an easy 10 miler, just enjoy the race. On the 8k, go for all.

I have an 8k myself on May 10th too!

Good luck.

I would play it safe until you are pain free.

If you run hard, you'll regret it if things get worse.

However, if the prize for the 8k is a set of guaranteed indestructible tendons, then go for it.

Your company is sponsoring a race and your own company is probably going to win it? That seems fishy.

Hi Lucia,

First of all ... I am sorry to hear about the layoffs at your job. That is tough.

Secondly, I would "save" a lot for the 8K. View the 10 miler as another 10 mile run, run the last mile at 8K race pace and run a healthy 8K.

Have fun!! I agree TGIF indeed.

Try to keep the 10 miler easy and go by feel. And run hard the 8k is what I would do. Good luck tomorrow though.

Well I'll just focus on beating your 8k time, Eric! Ha!

Bonnie, that's a good idea, thanks! You all are right, I shouldn't race the 10 miler.

Burt, my company is sponsoring our team only, it's a charity race. We got 2nd place last year, but our fastest runner is having surgery the Friday before the race... it'll be fun anyway.

Monte, that would be the best prize ever!!!

Lucia, you can try to beat my 8k. but since you fun your 8k before i do, i can beat you back. ha!

good luck on your 10 miler tomorrow!
