Ran from home to the office, the shorter way (Virginia Ave. by the Watergate). Feeling really sluggish, very exhausted, almost fainting the entire time. It's hot and humid but not that bad! I think I should eat something before heading out in the morning... though some days I'm perfectly fine, why is that?

I wish I knew, I have been feeling the same way, yesterday I had to stop because I though I was going to pass out. I go through times where I feel like this for weeks. It is frustrating, I usually blame it on female hormones. That's easy enough right;) Hope you feel better. I like your new picture.

We have high humidity consistently in the northeast which correlates to increased sweat production (at least in my case). I find if I don't have something salty or at least some sort of food I end up getting too dehydrated. Try having some salt or at least Gatorade before the run.

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 10:50:23 from 68.102.144.140

Gatorade is good stuff--before, during, and after--my stomach is sensitive when I run but I seem to hold gatorade down well--way to tough it out!

That's great advice, very doable. Thanks guys!

April, if I had been carrying any cash with me I would've jumped in a cab, I can tell you that!

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 11:18:37 from 68.102.144.140

I've had some days here recently where I would've jumped into anything with some cool air...

Ups & downs. I hear you. One day I feel slow & heavy, and the next, light & fast.

Do drink water, maybe a little before, and if possible, during.

It's got to be the heat and humidity.

From Bonnie on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 14:23:45 from 128.196.228.134

Water, maybe some electolytes ... slow down. I have found adjusting my pace in the heat helps a lot. When it is hot and uncomfortable I have a tendency to speed up (to get finished faster), only to make it worse.

Cool that you are going backpacking, Dean and I are avid backpackers. We took one trip that we parked our car and paid someone to drive us to the start of the trail and then hiked back to our car. Took us 7 days. Fun times (except for the near-death experiences - I will wait to tell you about those until after you get home!).

I will be at a conference in DC from August 1 - 6th. More information soon, but looking forward to seeing you if you will be around! (we will be staying near Chinatown).

From argentinerocket on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 16:10:05 from 74.9.147.114

I do need to slow down, which means leaving my house earlier, otherwise I speed up so I get to work early!

That's awesome Bonnie, what me and my roommate will be doing is similar, we'll leave a car in the park, take a shuttle to Waterton park in Canada, take a ferry to the border, and hike our way back to Many Glacier, in the park. I wanted to do it in 2003 when I worked in the park, but they only allow Canadian or U.S. citizens to cross the border there, because the station doesn't have technology to process any documentation, so you need a passport. Now that I am a citizen, I cannot wait to do it!

Can't wait to meet you when you're in town, and hear about your near-death experiences!

Bonnie told me that story while I was in a stupor, but it was riveting enough that I still remember it :)

Add a banana to list of what to have right before, it usually works for me!!!

From MrsFIT on Tue, Jun 30, 2009 at 08:14:47 from 24.2.68.35

I'm with Kelli, a banana does the trick for me when I do a run less than 6 miles.

Are you lost somewhere on the trail? Let's organize the search party!@

From Burt on Mon, Jul 06, 2009 at 15:29:56 from 68.76.197.194

I have a rocket sighting. Saw her on FaceBook. She's alive and kicking. And stinky.

From argentinerocket on Tue, Jul 07, 2009 at 10:56:16 from 74.9.147.114

Alive and kicking indeed! Just got back to DC last night and have a boatload of work, start school tomorrow, and have a Garmin to learn to use... I'll write about the trip to Glacier soon, but as you can imagine it was simply fabulous! I AM moving there (or somewhere in the mountains) after I finish my master's. No doubt about it. Unless things work out with my boyfriend. Slim chances of that, if my past serves as an example... Just kidding!

Looking forward to catching up on all of your blogs, let me know if there's anything I shouldn't miss! I hope all is well!

From Huans32 on Wed, Jul 08, 2009 at 11:20:27 from 138.64.2.76

Glad to hear you alive and kicking. Forgot you took off for a while to Glacier. Welcome back.
