Hola amigos! I'm back from my trip to Argentina - photos coming. Had a wonderful, wonderful time. Played LOTS with my adorable adorable adorable 2-year old nephew, spent lots of time with family and friends, and walked around the city a lot too. Didn't do any running (Buenos Aires is not a very runner-friendly city, you have to take a bus pretty much to go anywhere you can run, the sidewalks are too crowded and small, there is too much traffic on the streets).

The bursitis went away 3 days into my trip, so I got to show it off to my family and friends down there, ha! And the tendon issue seems better too. And better yet, I didn't gain much weight (probably because I lost muscle...)

Anyway, I'm back and ready to start slow and steady.

Biked to the office from home and ran 5 minutes to the pharmacy, got an antibiotic for a cold that my adorable adorable adorable nephew gave me, and ran back.

I'm signed up for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in 2 weeks, but decided to switch to the 5k. I need to be patient this time, I really don't want to get injured again!

Now I need to catch up with all of your blogs and news - please let me know if I missed anything important!

Good to hear that your bursitis is gone :)

Good to hear you had a great vacation and got some good R and R. Just what you needed. Just start back up nice and easy. And maybe only push it a little harder at your 5k. And see how your body reacts. This recovery I am coming back from is finally over I hope. Just need to build back up nice and slowly. Glad to hear your back and feeling better.

Welcome back!! I'm glad you had a nice vacation with your family. Happy to hear that your bursitis is gone... take it easy so you can recover completely! I'm sure you will be back to running strong in no time.

News, let's see... Kelli has some nasty blisters. Marion talks to the ghosts of dead animals. Mike Monte has won multiple pushup and pullup contests. Walter has an identity crisis and thinks he's Paul Harvey. Bonnie has a satanic lizard sacrificing cat. Camille has replaced running with cake making. Nevels is running a 50 mile race like twice a week. And I'm living on a diet of root beer floats and chili dogs. I think that about covers it.

Thanks for the update Burt! Things have been hectic so I haven't had a chance to read your blogs. Will get back to it this weekend :)

Welcome back Lucia!! I am so glad you had a good time, and that your bursitis is better. It is good to see you planning some races again.

Burt, as usual, is one funny guy. I am not sure I would want to run with him though (after a diet of root beer floats and chili dogs).

Come on Bonnie. I have a stomach of iron. Nothing comes back up. Now the manner at which it goes down is a different story.

From Nevels on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 16:59:11 from 131.204.15.93

I'd like to see the specs, material test results, and structural analysis of said iron stomach (mainly to compare to my own...you never know what will be at the aid stations in ultras)

From Lucia on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:00:56 from 74.9.147.114

I'd make sure to run in front of Burt and never behind him... that would be a good incentive to run faster!

I also have an iron stomach... though I bet it wouldn't make it through an ultra...

From Nevels on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:04:10 from 131.204.15.93

well you'll never know unless you try...

From Lucia on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:06:45 from 74.9.147.114

I definitely want to try... but before an ULTRA marathon I need to make it through another regular marathon... one step at a time, don't rush me my friend! :)

From Nevels on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:10:02 from 131.204.15.93

No rush, but I will say that a 50k is MUCH easier than a marathon, because they are generally on trails, which forces you to slow down a lot. I had run a couple of 50k's and a 40-miler before I ever ran a marathon, and I was more sore after my first marathon than I have been after any other race (with the glaring exception of the 100).

Here you go, Nevels.

From Nevels on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:19:50 from 131.204.15.93

Burt, that nearly made me fall out of my chair. But the ASTM is for ductile iron gravity sewer pipes from 4-64 inches in diameter. This raises two questions: How do you keep everything in during runs (gravity only occasionally stops during my runs...I'll make a point to send some sort of portable retention pond your way), and is your model a 4" or a 64" model? I'm not sure which I would prefer for myself...

From Burt on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:38:06 from 68.76.197.194

Let's say I've got a backflow prevention system that only works one way. And I've designed a few sewer pipes in my day that I've wondered if they would actually work if I personally were to use them.

Hey Rocket, don't you just love civil engineering humor?

From Bonnie on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 17:39:15 from 128.196.228.134

OMGoodness you are toooooooo funny. I almost spit tea out of my nose (yet another "backflow" problem, though not as gross)

From Camille on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 21:06:09 from 71.223.67.112

Lucia - I can't wait to see the pictures!!! Welcome back!
