Got up and thought it was too late to run to the office, so I turned on the shower... then I realized I had time to run to the office. So I packed my little backpack and I ran. Felt good! It rained hard all night, but thankfully it didn't as I was running, though the humidity must be close to 100%. Is there such a thing?

For those of you interested, Saucony has a contest called "We know", you have to come up with a catchy phrase, like "We know pain is relative because we run", "We know life is good because we run", etc., and you can win $1,000  in merchandise. I came up with three lame ones... "We know giving up is not an option", "We know there's beauty in exhaustion", "We know the finish line is only the beginning"... Who knows, maybe the person choosing them thinks they're cute... I'll have to come up with something cleverer...

Still cloudy and rainy here in DC, we haven't seen the sun since last Thursday, I think!!!

Ran home after work, feeling good.

We know relatives are pain, so we run.

...when they visit.

I love it!

Okay, you're right. The first two are lame, but I like the third one. You impressed me, and that's not easy to do. Now to go tell Rachel to look at her husband's comment here...

Yes there is such a thing as 100% humidity (when it rains). I remember those days well (Nashville was the same). We hit our first, of several I am told, 100F days today. Whew.

Guess what? I bought a bike today!!! Now I have to hope I am not quite as klutzy as you on it (just kidding)! I am pretty excited. I decided to get a mountain bike (because the ride is more "stable" and because I don't want to fix a bunch of flat tires - we have lots of prickly things here). I am taking a measly 3 hour bike maintenance class in a couple of weeks. See, I am seeking my inner ROCKET!

From Burt on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 01:47:19 from 98.167.151.26

Way cool Bonnie. Sometimes I wish I had a mountain bike, but I think it would take so much longer and much more effort to get to and from work. And I know what you mean about stability. I can't ride without hands on my road bike.

From Bonnie on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 08:34:00 from 71.210.108.76

It does take a little longer, but I got a bike with 29" wheels so it is a little faster. I almost got a cyclocross bike ... but it looked way too fast! I won't actually be on the road much, about 9 miles of my ride (each way) will be on a bike path (mixture of dirt and asphalt). There are usually quite a few people on the path so I doubt I would be able to get a really fast ride in anyway. I might regret the decision later, but for right now I am thinking of it as a "commuter" bike ;-).

LOL that is some cool phrases. And 10 miles wow. That is awesome!! So what race did you pick as your marathon in Utah??

From Lucia on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 09:26:57 from 74.9.147.114

Marion, you should be able to come up with some great sayings!

Bonnie, that is awesome! Don't worry, nobody falls as much as I do! I also have a mountain bike, and replaced the mountain bike tires with with thinner tires, the Specialized Armadillo

http://www.bikecommuters.com/2008/08/07/just-ask-jack-good-26-commuter-tires/

and it's amazing how much faster you can go, and they are extremely durable. Although, I've been thinking of switching back to the mountain bike tires because it makes it more stable like you said and makes me go slower (so i don't fall as much)... Also if the bike has a lock for the front shocks, make sure it's locked when you aren't riding on trails.

9 miles each way is a great ride, and it's very cool that is on a bike path, much safer... Have fun!

Huans, I need to get a BQ first, then I'll go do some fun trail runs in Utah!

From Bonnie on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 09:57:05 from 71.210.108.76

Lucia, I am hoping the 29" wheels will help a little with speed. I figured if I wanted to ride for fun (versus just to commute) I would be more likely to ride a mountain bike than I would a road bike (the roads kind of scare me - even in a car). The total ride is 11 miles each way (9 on bike path + 2 road -- but a road that leads to the University -- there are a LOT of cyclists there and very wide bike lanes). I did get a fairly expensive bike, so I am going to have to rent a locker (versus lock it up outside) at work.

I will put the MCM on my calendar - I will tentatively agree to run at least part way with you -- the actual number of miles to be determined later (once I see how my training goes this summer) - but I am pretty sure I can get you through at least 1/2 way - 18 miles. You WILL qualify. That is if you don't hurt yourself ... you have to promise that you will be careful about ramping up your mileage and watch for cars (and other cyclists) in the meantime!

Wooohooo!!! A VIP pacer, how lucky am I? You are awesome Bonnie, that would be so cool! And of course you (and Dean) are welcome to stay at my house! Soooo happy!

From Bonnie on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 10:25:32 from 71.210.108.76

It will give both of us a reason to stay healthy and train hard!!

Yes, and study hard...

I passed the class!!! I got a B!!! I passed I passed!!! 4 out of 10, only need 6 more and I'm done... almost half the way there... I can do it!!!
