From Chevy Chase to the office in an absolutely gorgeous morning. Sunny, not too hot, just perfect.

Had some trouble with mid-section cramps... not sure why, I've had a lot of that lately. This morning was worse than before, I had to stop... I wasn't going very fast, and it happened mostly when I was going downhill. Tried slowing down and taking deep belly breaths but didn't work too well. They went away after a few minutes, but still it was not fun.

My route this morning, a little shorter but not as scenic:

I've been having the same issue..funny no? What I've done is short-fast breaths and slowing down just a little for a minute or two. I put my hand on the sore spot and then magically it goes away. weird...

Are you drinking enough water?

Getting enough salt?

just my initial thoughts, especially with the onset of the summer heat...

Is it lower "mid-section" or belly mid-section? Does your lower back hurt as well?

If it is not electrolytes or eating before you run (and not going too fast), then it could be the psoas muscle. You can check this while you are sitting down in your chair at your office. Put your hand on your hip bone and then sort of rub down the inside of the bone (toward your belly area) -- you will feel a muscle/tendon there ... if it feels tight and hurts really bad when you push on it then it means your psoas is tight. I found this link for a good stretch http://www.floota.com/PsoasStretch1.html

if you have a tennis ball you can try to lay on it ... but that might be tricky because there are some intestines and things in the way when you try to get at it. I have often just tried pressure and self-massage with limited results.

Good luck Studette!

Hey girl, if you wanna see some pretty cool racing tomorrow check out the ITU race downtown! ITU is a traithlon world championship series, and there will also be a separate age grouper race. They are super fast, super fun races that are draft legal, and great for spectators.
