Went on a non-date bike ride with a guy that I've been going on dates with that doesn't like to call our biking dates "dates". What classifies a date as a date? I don't think it depends on whether you dress up or wear makeup or go to dinner or what you do - I think it has to do with whether both people go with the intention of getting to know each other and perhaps thinking of developing a relationship... no?

So, we biked about 15 super-duper tough miles, very hilly terrain, dirt roads and paved road, in an area called Sugarloaf mountain - it is privately owned but the owners are sharing it with the public, maintaining it and everything - how nice is that? Those were some tough hills, man! I honestly thought several times I'd have to stop to take a breather, but pushed on and made it without stopping! I need to get clipless pedals and bike shoes - my running shoes are not doing the trick in these tough bike rides. Maybe a road bike too...

To all of you married people - stay married! Dating sucks! :) Some people like to go out with only one person at a time and see them very often and e-mail and call all the time... so you're basically boyfriend/girlfriend since pretty early on. That used to be the way I understood dating, but then I got advice from friends that most people don't do things that way, that most people go out with multiple people, so you only see each other one or maybe two times a week for a short period of time - and they don't call or e-mail too often. After a couple of months, you can have the "exclusivity" conversation... That's ok too... The problem is that you never really know which "type" of dater you're seeing, and you don't want to intrude in their lives too much or seem too eager by asking them... so you make assumptions, and if they're wrong... you're in trouble...  Definitely not the same as dating when you're younger... it seemed so much easier! You liked a boy, flirted a little, he asked you if you wanted to be his girlfriend, and there, you were dating! Everything gets more complicated as you get older.

Nuff of that... I'll probably try a short run/walk this evening to see how my shins feel. Thankfully they don't hurt at all when I bike.

Sounds like a date to me.

From Eric Day on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 13:42:54

Guy & girl going out is a date no matter what they say.

And yes, as one grows older, dating gets more complicated. Thank god I found my half years ago...

Good luck on the dating.

Hope those shins (no chin) get better.

Animo y suerte!

I think you both have to agree that it's a date to be a date.

And if working out together is a date, then I've got to tell Rachel that I'm seeing a bunch of men on the side.

In fact, I think in BJJ I got to first or second base...

From Lucia on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 14:17:40

Yeah, the guy is just being funny and priding himself in taking me to much funner "adventures" than a simple dinner and a movie date. And he is right (I hate dinner and a movie dates). And that's why I keep going out with him on "adventures".

You are all lucky to have found your better halves. It's so nice to read when you mention your wives in your blogs, the way you provide support for each other.

Mike, I think Rachel will understand, with you being so far away and all ;)

Dude!

I submitted a comment a while back about the Jingle All the Way race and it clearly didn't work. You still looking for people?? Would love to meet up with some FRB'ers!

From Burt on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:37:04

That's right, Rocket. A man has needs.

From Burt on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:37:40

All right. That was horrible. I take it back.

From Lucia on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:41:52

Sorry Ben, I must've missed that comment! Yes, we can always use fast boys like you! You can sign up at the event website and where it asks for team just put "Santa's little jinglers". I'll send you info on the festivities later. Kool!

Burt... ohhhhhh Burt... :)

From dutch on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:53:26

Done!

I have a lot going on that weekend--if you are picking up your packet early, is there any way we could work it so you grab mine as well?? I know...i'm such a bum...

From walter on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:54:44

Luce, just remember when you get the bike clips to twist your ankle and not try pulling up like on ski bindings. I laugh at how many people fall by not remembering this simple technique. I admit Ive done it myself but luckily fell into the high side of the trail and not the low drop side.

You single gals always have the best stories, we cant top them.

From walter on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 16:56:10

Oh I was going to ask if you kissed after your biking ordeal? Then its a date. You have to capture at least one base to call it a date. lol Im kidding, Im going to go now before all the angry bloggers start in on me.

From Lucia on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 17:02:51

Ben, I'm picking up a bunch of packets so I have no problem picking up yours - I work a few blocks away from the packet pick-up place.

Wall-e, I expect to fall many, many times until I get used to the clipless pedals... maybe I'll get a full face mask for that... and I don't know where you learned that but serious gals like myself don't kiss till later on... don't you know boys have koodies?

From walter on Mon, Dec 08, 2008 at 17:12:21

koodies huh? Yeah Koodies you like kissin' ha ha

By the way I rented Wall-e and was not at all impressed. If they are going to give me my new nick name, it better be a movie worth it! lol

From huans32 on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 08:46:10

Wow biking date?? Sounds like alot of fun. Well if you both want to call it that. It is a clever way to go on another date with you. I would use it too.:) As for your biking. I would recommend doing the shoes and clips for sure. Would make it so much easier on you. And road bikes are so much faster on the roads then mountain bikes. That poor guy wouldnt even know what to do after that. He would have to chase even harder for you then.:)

Oh no luck on 4am meetings??

From The Howling Commando on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 13:17:48

Hope your running assessment goes well today! Let me know what's up! Wishing you the best and hopefully if we think spring it will get here sooner!

From marion on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:06:45

Spring is only 3 months a way!!!

From Lucia on Tue, Dec 09, 2008 at 14:15:46

Yes, I'm definitely getting the clipless pedals... I'm thinking of switching to biking altogether, the hottest guys seem to be into that - it worked for our own Jillzo after all! :)

Walter, I haven't seen Wall-e... sorry you didn't like it. I'll work on a new nickname for you.

Mark, the only one I want to see at 4 a.m. is my cat sleeping next to me :)

I love winter! Let me enjoy it before Spring gets here! Empty streets, less crowded trails... gotta love it!
