Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

I never run well in the first month after a marathon and today was no exception.  Warmed up 2.63.  First mile 6:19,calves were tight and acid-ey, and minced along the next 4 at marathon pace.  I did get to win and get $100 so can't complain, but am chagrined over the time.    Cooled down 5 miles.  I will try not to pay too much mind to this race but geeeez!  McMillan says I should've run it under 31:00 bwahahaha!

congrats on the win. $100 -- not bad at all for a sunday afternoon!!

no worries about the time -- i think it's solid and it's only been a few weeks since the marathon. good job, april.

McMillan is a liar! Go buy new shoes with your 100!

From JulieC on Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 22:06:51 from 71.35.248.85

YAY we got matching 100 bills!! only I wish I didn't need to run a dreaded marathon for it!! 5 miler for some big bucks!! YEE HAW for NEW SHOES!! apparently I was the winner last year for the same 100 dollars. I just didn't know it and because I never said anything I didn't get the money. Well I never knew. I had to call the dealership twice since the marathon. I can use the new shoes. He had a hundred dollar bill for me but ended up mailing me a check. Got it in the mail two days ago. :D got to feed our addiction, right? btw way to go on the time!! how was course April? and did you have any competition?

On the bright side, you got to use the word chagrined in your blog. Anyway, I would say that for the next few races, in case you have a bad one, you get to just say, "whatever, I have a 2:59" and that is that.

Congrats on the win and cash, talk about a silver lining!

Nice run April! First post-marathon race is generally just a rustbuster... to win and run that fast is GREAT!

McMillan's calculator is highly skewed towards ridiculously fast times if you drop down several levels in race distance, especially if you are using your marathon time as the "standard." I can't hit ANY of the times that he would predict I should in anything below the 1/2 marathon.

From flatlander on Mon, Oct 24, 2011 at 11:14:20 from 76.31.26.153

Good job April. For me, I am faster at shorter distances than marathon distances when it comes to McMillan, although you wouldn't know it from last weekend. Maybe SGM is still affecting me, glad I have company. (Well, kind of, no way are we in the same category.)

From Rachelle on Mon, Oct 24, 2011 at 12:19:59 from 159.212.71.69

Congratulations! It always takes 4-6 weeks for me to fully recover from a marathon so this it totally normal. And yay for winning $100!!

From Claudio on Mon, Oct 24, 2011 at 15:03:50 from 216.99.185.50

Congratulations on the win! and don't worry about the time - you made the equivalent of about $180/hour - sounds better, doesn't it?! or $20/mile :) Seriously, a 5-miler faster than marathon pace, 3 weeks after a marathon as intense as yours was, is plenty fast!

Congrats on the win! $100 prize is sweet, no better feeling than walking away from a race with cash in hand!! :)

From Jody on Tue, Oct 25, 2011 at 14:37:18 from 75.141.131.35

Congrats! That is great and $100 to have fun with! First race after a marathon is never fun but you rocked it!

Great job April, as always. I like Claudio's math.
