Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

8:52 average pace.  A cautious test run in the snow.  My knee/IT band held up fine, it just didn't seem to like going downhill.  I did a lot of bunny hopping through deep snow so I would run like an exaggerated sprinter with high knees and good buttkick, and landed on the balls of my feet--which was nice and soft in the deep snow.  Slow going but a good workout and probably good for my form, plus my knee liked it.  I called in sick to work today because Vanessa is having major breathing problems and I am worried and need to hover.

Glad your snow run was good to your knee! That sounds tough with all the high knee and butt kicks! You are awesome to get out in the 'elements'! way to go!

I've missed a few entries of your blog--but

1) I hope the knee keeps holding up. That sucks when it is bothersome.

2) I hope Vanessa starts feeling better. It seems like she's had a few episodes lately.

3) I'm glad to hear potty is going really well for her! Eli took a few steps backward. I'm think that he has an infection of some sort, so we will be going to the doctor for him to check it out. Hopefully after that's squared away he will go back to doing well...

Amber--thanks! I don't think this snow will stick too long because the temps are above freezing

Tracy--knee started acting up Friday, nothing earth shattering I just don't want it to turn into anything--this is Vanessa's second episode in less than two weeks and this time around it seems worse, I wish I knew what was triggering it

Hope Vanessa gets to feeling better.

Does she have allergies? Caleb's episodes are always allergy related. Certain times of the year and in certain environments, we just know he's going to be bad.

Does she take any daily medications?

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Feb 08, 2010 at 15:49:48 from 68.103.250.39

Hmm no allergies that I am aware of. These last two episodes have been right on the tail of a little cough and runny nose so sometimes I wonder if she just reacts badly to the common cold. No daily meds now, but I suspect if this continues to be a problem as she gets older she will end up on some kind of maintenance medication. Our youngest son Ian used to have problems, but it didn't get quite as severe and he seems to have grown out of it. I hope she does too!

Hope Vanessa gets over these trouble breathing episodes. So hard on these little ones. Mommy-nurse is doing a good job taking care of her!

NICE test run on the snow w/ the bunny hops, butt-kicks and high-knees. Hope the knee continues to behave so you can have a great run pacing your sister this weekend! :)

Love the image of you doing the football run-- feet through the tires workout!! Sorry about Vanessa. She most likely has some underlying reactive airway disease (asthma)..that acts up more with the common cold. Tis' the season...I worked on peds last week and it was swamped with bronchiolitis kids. Gowned and gloved a lot. Suctioned tons out. RSV season peak just hit. Some kids get it again and again or a strain very siimilar to it. Glad you could take the day off to be with her.

Sorry April I don't know how that comment about asking Allie about the Eugene Marathon ended up on your blog. Anyway, I came back to your blog so that you would visit teenamarie.fastrunningblog.com to answer her short survey about why women over 30 run. Happy Day :D

April's only 26.

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Feb 08, 2010 at 19:02:42 from 68.103.250.39

I'll go with that! :D

Thanks for the well wishes everyone--Vanessa is doing better--got some prednisone on board and although it was a rough night and rough morning I think she is over the hump now.
