I accidentally ran 100 miles in November 2013.  it was hard.  I threw up a lot.  decided to do a better job next time

I did it again on purpose October 2014--Heartland 100 winner and CR 17:38:37

Long-Term Running Goals:

 

Sub 3 hour marathon--SOMEDAY!  Done!

 

New long term goal:  ....run enough to feel kinda like I did when I was fit

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.  
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

My cold got worse and worse at work last night.  I can't breathe through my nose, my throat is on fire, and I am hacking up green snot.  I don't have a fever, though.  So, this is just a virus.  I took half a dose of nyquil and 400mg of motrin at bedtime, then washed it down with a cup of chamomile tea, rendering me unconscious for almost 6 hours.  Now me and Vanessa are on the couch again and my plan is to spend most of my day on this couch hydrating. I believe this is the peak so I should be feeling a ton better tomorrow(I hope).  When David gets home from work we will be heading up to Abilene to stay the night and the kids are going to Grandma's.  Maybe I will have moved enough by then to pack.  This is just a hiccup.  I keep telling myself that I am strong and healthy and I will have this kicked by tomorrow.  If I rest all day and eat and drink well I shouldn't be in any kind of weakened state either. Right?

You're strong and ready to do well at this race. Don't let this cold get you down. You'll do great. You are doing the proper thing... lots of rest and hydrating. How are you feeling today? Think you should take some Dayquil, perhaps? Just to keep some drugs in your system?

It's above the neck right? That's the old rule that I've heard meaning it's good to run. Running actually clears me up a little the couple times I've run with a cold. You might even be feeling symptoms tomorrow morning but hopefully by the time you hit mile 1, you'll have forgotten you were ever sick.

KP and Joe I hope you are right--and this is nothing in the race tomorrow. I feel terrible fatigued though, but am thinking it may be a hangover from Nyquil-that is why I only took half a dose, cold medicines make me groggy and hazy and take a long time to get out of my system. I won't take any tonight no matter how bad I feel. I am trying to stay positive but I have to consider the possibility that this could really hurt my goals for tomorrow. All I can do is rest and hydrate, and then rest and hydrate some more

Oh April, so sorry to hear the cold is not cooperating. Hope things work out somehow, and you start feeling miraculously better. You certainly did not deserve this.

I have to tell you - with the talent you have for running, the intelligence you've shown by training and eating properly, and your spunky spirit, you remind me of Joanie Benoit Samuelson! You might not feel like running like her at the moment . . . but I hope I've brought a smile to your face never the less! You'll have your moment in the sun, April.

I like to look at best-case and worst-case scenarios. Best-case, it doesn't affect you like we're all hoping. Worst-case would be you have to drop out and show up for a fall marathon in even better shape than you are for this one (and get a bigger PR). If something inbetween those scenarios happens (like you finish, but the cold kicks your butt and you miss your goal) then you have a hardcore feather in your hat, slugging through a marathon while sick - something most people (like myself) couldn't fathom.

glad about your decision with the nyquil. I took benadryl the night before a marathon and was literally a zombie for the first 15 miles before I sweated out that med. Are you taking in some electrolytes, you lose a lot thru snot? I am glad also that you got 6 hours in and hope you can get that tonight. Man your body is trying to talk to you, glad you aren't going to listen because YOU WILL BE ON TOMORROW!!!!! Make sure to take some natural throat lozenges for the race in case the throat acts up. GO APRIL!! I am sending the good vibes to you and that rabbit from the hat : D

Oh no! I hope you will be ok, you are definietly strong after all the training, hopefully it will subside and you will feel better by the time of the race.

The marathon always seems to be two races, getting to the start and getting to the finish
