Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

8:39 AP.  Minced gingerly along nsaid-free.  I am really dependent on those.  So, I swallowed crow and went to the doctor.  He also specialized in sports medicine at one point.  My pain doesn't match anything.  He said it basically is either inflammation in the area and I will have to rest it to make it go away, but can probably nsaid-up and make the marathon, or, it is tibial stress fractures.  I am being scheduled for a bone scan.  Preparing for the worse.

Julie this kinda crept up on me. It had started in one side a few weeks before Houston, but pretty much went away and after Houston was gone. It reared up in both sides suddenly a few weeks later after a day off..out of nowhere! It hadn't been hurting while running. Since then, it has been persistently present. It is pain just below the knee at the top of the shin, difficult to localize, but I don't really think it involves the knee. I can walk and kneel fine. It hurts to run, like grinding glass that sometimes radiates down both sides of my lower leg, but tends to get better as I warm up. With the use of NSAIDS, I can run fine, without nsaids, I mince gingerly along and cannot stand it. I keep trying to wean off the nsaids and can't. There is no specific tender point and no swelling. Also, I get this unstable feeling in my lower legs as if they might give out--that's the symptom that really caught my attention and pretty much drove me to the doctor, plus the fact that I can't wean off the nsaids.

Yikes, ..not a stress fracture, not a stress fracture, not a stress fracture.. Hopefully it's the inflammation thing and you can abuse ibuprofen until the race and heal it afterward. Good luck, hoping for the best.

sorry I don't have internet access at work...but I was wondering if you have been taking some vitamin D---perhaps a more bioavailable kind, like under the tongue? I sure hope it is minor. Gosh stress fracture would be a huge bummer. speedy recovery forwarded : D.
