Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

I'm sick.  My gut hurts so bad.  Can't eat.   My daughter is sick too.   She was up all night with breathing problems and vomited yesterday.  No workout today.

Oh NO!!! I'm so sorry you are sick! That's aweful! I am even more sorry to hear you daughter is sick. Seeing your children sick is just heartbreaking. I hope you get better soon!

From Eric Day on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:28:09

Oh Oh. Have you taken any medicine?. Please do drink lots of liquids (and your daughter, of course).

What did you guys eat?

Hope you get well very soon.

Just checking up...feeling any better?

From seeaprilrun on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 23:31:43

Hey Eric---thanks for checking--I am wiped out, but doing a little better. I was able to eat some pancakes and drink some water. Vanessa is much better. She is needing breathing treatments every four hours or so but in between seems to do okay. We did have some peanut butter crackers yesterday--but I checked and they weren't on the recall list for possible products contaminated with salmonella. Probably just a virus I picked up at work--it happens every now and then!

Nice to know you are better as so is Vanessa. Why is she having breathing treatments?

Get 100% well.

I read somewhere in the blog you started running in August last year, is this correct? When did you quit smoking?

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 11:45:17

Eric--Vanessa has reactive airway disease--which is just a fancy name for asthma; they don't diagnose asthma in children as young as Vanessa since many grow out of it. Vanessa has had 5 difficulty breathing episodes starting when she was 8 months old. My 7 year old has the same problem.

I quit smoking in August too--at the same time I started running. I did not smoke when I was pregnant or breastfeeding, but soon after Vanessa was weaned I started again--although I did not smoke at home or around the kids. When I was at work or after everyone went to bed I would go outside and smoke. It was time to kick the habit. I had been a smoker for most of my adult life and I needed to be healtheir for the sake of my children.

I hope Vanessa can grow out the asthma. Its a shame when children get these 'problems'; wish we could carry the problem for them, don't you think.

I quit smoking in August myself too. Can you believe I did two 10k races before quitting smoking? Some people are just so stubborn. And me too, I smoked for ALL of my adult life, unbelievable!

From seeaprilrun on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 12:04:46

Hee hee the first day I ran I smoked a cigarette afterward--and the rest of the day. The second day I didn't smoke until later in the day. The third day I decided not to smoke at all--and haven't had one since! Crazy. Congratulations in kicking the habit! It is very hard. I know how easy it is to start back up again--I feel like I MUST run or I may be tempted to light up....It is strange I don't have cravings anymore but sometimes I dream that I smoked a cigarette and then I wake up really mad at myself and am relieved to find it was only a dream.
