When I woke up this morning my shin was screaming!  As the day wore on it quieted down a bit.  I must admit that it has me a little gun shy!

decided to take down the intensity on this one...seeing as I had just gotten the bowls to settle down, and I really need to get my nutrients re-stocked. I didn't want to risk taking two steps back. I was successful. The left shin was fine until I stopped and then it screamed at the beginning of the cool down. I'm taking tomorrow off, and I'm going to focus on getting some good food in my belly.  I think at this point it's mostly about keeping it together physically and maintaining fitness level, staying sharp,

Annie, I have the same "bowel" issues. I have been diagnosed with colitis - made worse by NSAIDS (do you take a lot of Aleve or Ibuprofen?). After the "flare" (that causes the bloody mess) dies down (they can give you some medicine that will clear that up right away - suppositories no less) you should try to get some fiber in your diet (like a lot). I have been eating Rye Crisps as a snack (2-3/day is all you need) and it has done wonders for me. I know it sounds "counter-intuitive" right now, but in the long run it has helped me. I still get flares (even though I don't use NSAIDS anymore) When I had these problems they ruled out is a "worse" diagnosis for runners, but not uncommon (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ischemic-colitis/DS00794).

Good luck, glad to see you blogging again, and very cool about the elite start at Chicago!

Good to see you blogging again, what marathon are you training for. Ice and massage that calf.
