Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 30 minutes on the elliptical. Called the sports doctor this morning and told him the steroid isn't helping more than 10-20%. Back to the drawing board - big test to see what other diagnostic/treatment ideas he has up his sleeve...we're missing something here, I know it.

PM - 2 miles walking around the track with some running drills mixed in there. 30 minutes of arm weights.

From JulieC on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 09:24:02 from 168.103.184.62

hmmm.....blood work??? hormones, ferritin (again), TSH, etc...ARE you sleeping well? I would suggest cherry juice concentrate a strong antioxidant. hope things turn around quick!!

From Teena Marie on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 09:50:14 from 67.2.103.122

Did he do another x-ray of your pelvis? If not I would suggest that again. If so, and there were still no signs of a pelvic fracture in the ramus or elsewhere then maybe you should re-examine your MRI and that small piece of labrum that they did not think was causing any problems.

From Teena Marie on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 09:55:01 from 67.2.103.122

Or maybe even a bone scan?

From Andrea on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 10:52:38 from 72.37.171.52

Yup, he took an xray of the pelvis and everything looked good. I'm getting really nervous b/c I've started to develop pain around my pubic bone.

andrea: i'm not sure if "osteitis pubis" has been brought up through all of these tests, but this guy's blog might be helpful:

From Andrea on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 11:16:03 from 72.37.171.52

Yes I have looked into it...average 9 month recovery :( I didn't have the signs of it when the doc did the testing for it, but ever since he did that I've had pain there.

From Tara on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 11:19:27 from 75.169.139.241

I'm curious to know what other tests they will look at. Clearly something is wrong and hasn't been detected. Sneaky injury! Otherwise, I think you just need to form an opiate addiction. That seems to be popular these days.

From JulieC on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 13:53:54 from 168.103.184.62

I had osteitis pubis postpartum and several flares since then. I honestly think it is hormonal either thyroid or adrenals. Getting optimum nutrition- vitamins and iron.

From Andrea on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 15:07:58 from 72.37.171.52

Well I set up another appt with the doc on Tuesday. He said that he really needs the pain to localize in order to determine what the next plan of action is...hopefully that happens by then.

I'm going to ask him what this could be if it isn't sports related...and whether we should just go ahead and get some blood work done, get a bone scan, etc.

From Redd on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 15:28:15 from 67.182.221.190

I think the only solution is to use the 9 mo. recovery to have a kid, Utah style!

From Cam on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 15:28:25 from 166.147.89.159

Man this bums me out. Really want you healthy and dominating.

From AngieB on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 16:34:21 from 159.212.71.200

Oh man I was hoping that I was coming back on the blog to see that your healthy. Im so sorry. So frustrating! I think Redd is onto something here though.....

Oh boy I started this down a dark path, dark indeed.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 17:55:48 from 69.131.141.92

dang it..

Good luck on Tuesday. Maybe a 20-mile tempo would help that pain "localize" once and for all?

P.S. I am not a doctor.

From Lily on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 18:47:31 from 67.199.178.95

I back you up if you wanna vent more. Let it all out, get angry! You are allowed to be peeved.

I am so sorry. I hope time will heal :(

From Lily on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 18:50:07 from 67.199.178.95

btw I have had osteitis pubis. After I had my daughter 7 years ago. Sucked!

From Andrea on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 18:56:50 from 67.177.11.154

Yeah I hear it's very common during/after pregnancy. It sounds terrible.

I am heavily thinking about "localizing" the pain with a hard tempo run :)

From Jake K on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 18:57:24 from 67.177.11.154

Have a BABY, get ANGRY...

Thanks everyone for thinking of MY QUALITY OF LIFE in all of this!!! :-)

For both of your sake's don't listen to any of this baby stuff. Did you know they just poop on themselves and you have to clean it?? No one told me!

From Jake K on Wed, Dec 05, 2012 at 19:10:44 from 67.177.11.154

Yeah at least you can train puppies to go in the neighbor's yard...

From runningafterbabies on Thu, Dec 06, 2012 at 08:59:01 from 71.195.219.247

Is the pain in your SI joint? You're absolutely certain it's not an acquired leg length discrepancy? All that tightness in your hips/psoas/hamstring might jack your legs up into your pelvis. This can cause pain which source often goes mis/undiagnosed. If you do have a discrepancy I can give you the name of the only person I trust to pull my leg back in place. Since my last baby I've needed an adjustment about once every six months. My pain ranged from very sharp debilitating SI pain (I could not run at all), to a "stiff" feeling in my hip. I hope you can figure this out!
